According to The Business of Fashion , the analytics company Launchmetrics said that billionaire Jeff Bezos' wedding generated up to 222 million USD in media value for participating brands, 60% higher than the entire New York Fashion Week last season.

The biggest winner was Dolce & Gabbana, whose white lace wedding dress, with a high neckline, long sleeves, and a mermaid tail, was worn by Lauren Sánchez.
The design was inspired by the dress worn by Sophia Loren in the 1958 film Houseboat . The dress also appeared on the digital cover of Vogue , earning Dolce & Gabbana $14.5 million in media value, 28% more than the value achieved by the brand's Fall/Winter 2025 collection on the runway.

Two other brands that have benefited from the “Bezos effect” are Schiaparelli, the corset dress Lauren Sánchez wore to the welcoming party, and Versace, the brand behind the pink silk mermaid dress with Swarovski crystals she wore to the reception. These two designs brought in $4 million and $2.8 million in media value, respectively.
Not only the bride, many brands that appeared in the guests' outfits at Venice also enjoyed the halo.
Names like Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Oprah Winfrey, Usher, Ivanka Trump and Sydney Sweeney all appeared in outfits from Oscar de la Renta, Dior, Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga - each brand earning more than $1 million in media value.

The last straw
The USA Today newspaper reported that this 3-day event is estimated to cost about 50 million USD - not a small amount in the context of the whole US facing a series of events: fear of war with Iran, record heat, protests against President Donald Trump's immigration policy, important rulings from the Supreme Court on reproductive rights...
In Venice, residents and activists also took to the streets to protest, saying the wedding was a symbol of the crude commercialization of a city being eroded by tourism and unsustainable investment. In that context, Jeff Bezos’s wedding was the last straw.

Perhaps it is this overwhelm that has led to a general apathy among the public. When images of the world’s richest people gliding across the waters of Venice on luxury yachts flood social media, many find them empty, lacking any cultural or emotional significance.
Culture journalist Louis Pisano – who was blocked from Instagram by Lauren Sánchez after posting a review of the wedding – said: "It was so ostentatious that the public turned away from the beginning. They no longer had the energy to care."
What made the wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez so bland, according to Louis Pisano, was that there was no story to root for, no inspiring love journey, no cultural milestone or symbol of love.
This was just a luxury wedding with a guest list of 200 people - considered "random, even transactional".

From Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates to Sydney Sweeney, Ellie Goulding and even Orlando Bloom appearing alone - the guest list is full of famous names, but it is hard to believe that they are really "best friends" of the bride and groom. "Everything is strategically calculated on both sides. No one believes they are that close" - Louis Pisano commented.
Social media was also in on the act. One TikToker mocked Sydney Sweeney's invitation, saying, "Does she know them?" Leonardo DiCaprio was criticized for attending a "highly carbon-intensive" wedding - a stark contrast to his public stance on climate change.

Commentator Blakely Thornton even commented that the guests only came to seek recognition and social status.
The total cost of the wedding could cover approximately 1,515 weddings in the US today. While many couples are counting their pennies amid economic uncertainty, Jeff Bezos’s wedding seemed like it came from another world – far removed from the modern trend of minimalism, meaning, and intimacy.
"All this glamour is completely out of step with reality. And so the public cannot empathize," Louis Pisano concluded.
