Karaoke bar employee stabbed customer to death, received life sentence

On January 27, at the headquarters of the People's Committee of Thanh Khe Dong Ward (Thanh Khe District), the People's Court of Da Nang City opened a mobile court to try the defendant Le An (30 years old, residing in Xuan Ha Ward, Thanh Khe District, Da Nang City) for the crime of "Murder" and Ngo Duc Minh (29 years old, residing in Tam Thuan Ward, Thanh Khe District, Da Nang City) for the crime of "Intentionally causing injury".

According to the indictment, Le An was an employee of TK karaoke bar (address: Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, Xuan Ha Ward, Thanh Khe District, Da Nang City). At about 11:00 a.m. on August 5, 2023, while calculating the bill, Mr. Huynh Dinh Van (a customer singing at the bar) asked An to reduce the room fee, but An did not agree, so the two sides argued, after which Van left.

On the afternoon of August 5, 2023, Van brought a knife and called Ngo Duc Minh to invite him to fight. At 4:00 p.m. the same day, Van called An to meet behind the TK karaoke bar to talk.

Here, the two continued to argue, seeing that, Minh pulled out a knife and slashed An's left hand twice. After that, An ran into the karaoke bar while Van and Minh left the scene.

At about 4:15 p.m. on August 5, 2023, Van returned to the karaoke bar to meet An and the two continued to argue. At this time, An used a knife to stab Van once in the right rib.

The two sides struggled, Van stepped back and tripped, An continued to stab Van many times with the knife, hitting his face, neck, and hands.

Van ran towards the karaoke bar, An continued to chase and stabbed him repeatedly... As a result, Van died on the way to the emergency room.

After consideration, the panel sentenced Le An to life in prison for “Murder”, ordered the defendant to compensate the victim’s family for funeral expenses and mental damage in the amount of 300 million VND, and provide child support of 1.5 million VND/month until the victim’s child turns 18 years old. The panel sentenced defendant Ngo Duc Minh to 2 years and 6 months in prison for “Intentionally causing injury”.
