Comedian Tung Lam passed away at the age of 90

He is a comedian whose stage name is given to him by the audience as a freak because of his charming comedy, combined with his talent for singing, cheering and acting in front of the camera. His career has left many beautiful marks on the comedy stage and also in his management role.

Artist Tung Lam was born on March 1, 1934 in Saigon, his real name is Lam Nguyen Pham. He is the youngest of 10 siblings. As a child, due to his poor family situation, he often followed his friends to travel and sing to earn a living, sometimes drifting to Cambodia, where he was taught to play and sing.

In 1948, the radio station at that time held a contest to select young singers for the station, and the boy Lam Nguyen Pham won first prize. In 1952, he won first prize again in a singer contest organized by Saigon radio station.

His name became famous from then on. After winning two awards, Tung Lam, along with actor Van Hung and musician Lam Phuong, formed a very compatible trio.

They are famous for the songs: "Harvest Song", "Night Forest Music" (Lam Phuong), "O Me Ly" (Van Phung), "The Music of the Traveling Group" (Do Nhuan), "Horse Galloping on a Distant Road" (Le Yen), "Moonlight Song" (Duong Thieu Tuoc), "Thien Thai" (Van Cao)... After that, he turned to acting and comedy.

After the country's reunification, during the 9 years he was the deputy director of the Hau Giang Cultural Troupe, artist Tung Lam worked as a stage director and managed actors and singers. Every stage his troupe performed at was packed with spectators.

Thanks to his talent for management, he learned from "Miscellaneous Acts", he turned the situation around so that the troupe could make a profit. But eventually the signboard was defunct when audiences had many other entertainment options.

People's Artist Kim Cuong presented the "Soulmate Artist" gift to comedian Tung Lam in 2013.

Comedians organized a birthday celebration for comedian Tung Lam when he turned 83. Comedians such as My Chi, Phuc Hau, Phu Quy, Hoai Linh, Hong Van, Phuoc Sang, Huu Nghia, Hong To, Truong Giang, Tran Thanh, Thuy Nga… came to congratulate him.
