Huynh Nhu and teammates close in on new record

(NLDO) - The opportunity to defend the throne is almost certainly in the hands of Huynh Nhu and her teammates.

The 2-0 victory over Thai Nguyen T&T in round 8 of the National Women's Football Championship - Thai Son Bac Cup 2025 helped Ho Chi Minh City Club 1 get closer to the championship this season.

The match, considered the turning point of the season, showed the class and mettle of coach Doan Thi Kim Chi and her team. Previously, former HCM City player Bich Thuy (currently playing for Thai Nguyen T&T) had helped her former team benefit when she and her teammates defeated Hanoi , causing their direct rivals in the championship race to slow down.

In the 34th minute, captain Huynh Nhu opened the score with a familiar shot, continuing to prove her star value right when the home team needed it most.

Before the first half ended, Hong Nhung scored to double the gap, helping TP HCM 1 secure 3 points. Although there were no more goals in the second half, the tight control of the game and disciplined defense helped coach Kim Chi and his team affirm their position as the number 1 candidate for the championship.

This victory brought Ho Chi Minh City 1 to 19 points, temporarily 4 points ahead of Hanoi and Vietnam Coal and Minerals while there are only 2 rounds left.

If crowned, Ho Chi Minh City Club 1 will have won the national championship for the 15th time, a record that no women's football team in Vietnamese history has reached.

Coach Kim Chi's team is facing the opportunity to complete a decade of dominance as they aim for their 10th championship in just 11 years.
