In 2025, the total number of candidates registering for the high school graduation exam will be 1.16 million. Of which, nearly 98% of candidates will take the exam under the 2018 General Education Program, the remaining 2% will take the exam under the 2006 General Education Program (about 26,700 candidates).

Candidates taking the 2006 General Education Program will take four subjects including literature, math, an optional test (natural science or social science) and a foreign language.
