On October 3, Soc Trang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital (Can Tho City) announced that it had successfully performed surgery on a 4-year-old boy who suffered multiple intestinal perforations due to swallowing 10 batteries and magnets.
Previously, baby PTH (4 years old, residing in Tran De commune, Can Tho city) was hospitalized with severe abdominal pain, continuous vomiting and signs of severe infection. Through clinical examination, doctors discovered a foreign object in the digestive tract that had caused intestinal perforation.

During the surgery, doctors removed all the foreign objects, including four small rusted and deformed batteries, six small magnets, and one suspected fish bone. At the same time, doctors removed the necrotic intestine, reconnected the intestine, and sutured the holes.
After surgery, baby H. received intensive treatment and care, and his health is gradually recovering.
Dr. Chung Tan Dinh, Director of Soc Trang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, said this is one of the complex digestive surgeries on children that the hospital has successfully performed.
The hospital also said that recently it has continuously received cases of children being hospitalized due to swallowing foreign objects such as hair, fish bones, staples, watch batteries...
Doctors recommend that parents pay special attention and keep children away from toys, objects, nuts and small foods to ensure their safety.
