On the evening of February 25, news from Xa Luc Border Guard Station - Kien Giang Border Guard, functional forces and local people have just extinguished a forest fire on the edge of Phu Quoc National Park.
Initial information, at around 12 noon on the same day, a fire broke out at the edge of Phu Quoc National Park (Da Chong Hamlet, Bai Thom Commune, Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang). Upon receiving the news, Xa Luc Border Guard Station mobilized officers and soldiers to the scene to put out the fire and clear a runway to prevent the fire from spreading.
However, the Melaleuca forest area has thick vegetation combined with hot weather, so the fire fighting work of local authorities encountered many difficulties, the fire burned quickly and spread widely.

After more than 4 hours, by 5:30 p.m. the same day, the fire was basically under control, not spreading to Phu Quoc National Park. The estimated damage was about 1 hectare of Melaleuca forest.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tiep - Director of Phu Quoc National Park, to prevent forest fires, the unit coordinates with local authorities to require households living near forests and forest edges to commit to not cutting down or encroaching on forests.
Phu Quoc National Park was formerly a Nature Reserve located on Phu Quoc Island. In 2001, the Reserve was upgraded to Phu Quoc National Park.
With a total area of up to 31,422 hectares, Phu Quoc National Park stretches across many communes and wards of Phu Quoc City. In 2006, Phu Quoc National Park was recognized by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve.
Xa Luc Border Guard Station - Kien Giang Border Guard is currently managing and taking care of 400 hectares of forest in Phu Quoc National Park. In recent years, in addition to forest care and protection, the unit has always actively propagated and mobilized local people about the meaning and importance of forests, and about the awareness and responsibility of each individual in forest protection.
