The Vietnam Automobile Transport Association proposed to adjust the regulations on the maximum age of drivers of passenger vehicles (including buses) with more than 29 seats (excluding the driver's seat) and sleeper cars to 62 years old for men and 57 years old for women.
Specifically, Point e, Clause 1, Article 59 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety stipulates that professional drivers can only work up to the age of 57 for men and 55 for women. However, most transport businesses are currently facing a serious shortage of drivers, with the rate ranging from 10-50%.
Many businesses are at risk of bankruptcy due to not being able to find enough professional drivers, especially for passenger vans with 29 seats or more and tractor-trailers. While the majority of drivers are aged 57 (male) and 55 (female) and still have good skills and experience in safe and friendly driving.
Maintaining the current age limit is no longer suitable to the practical context. This regulation affects the lives of workers, when they do not know what to do while waiting for retirement age.
