Saigon Port will present the project in the third quarter of 2024.
Saigon Port said it is conducting research and proposing an investment policy for an international passenger port project on land belonging to Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi port, Nguyen Tat Thanh street (Ward 18, District 4). In terms of scale, the project proposes to invest on a land area of about 68,618m² including the entire area 3 and part of K10 bridge extending to Nguyen Tat Thanh street. The project will build Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi international passenger port to ensure the reception of international passenger ships, cruise ships with a capacity of 1,000 passengers, and yacht mooring. In addition, a complex will be built to serve management and exploitation, a square, a bus complex and a ferry terminal parking lot. The total investment is expected to be 624.9 billion VND, with the implementation period from 2025 to 2027. Of which, the investor will allocate 30% of the total investment capital, the remaining 70% will be mobilized from commercial bank loans and other legal capital sources. According to Saigon Port, the research and preparation of investment proposal documents are being urgently carried out and are expected to be completed for submission to the City People's Committee for consideration in the third quarter of 2024. The project aims to contribute to serving the needs and attracting more and more tourists to visit the city by international cruise ships. This place also connects the space with the central area, creating more entertainment venues, serving the needs of local people and tourists. "The project implementation is consistent with the policy of Ho Chi Minh City and the Government on relocating cargo ports out of the central area, converting the function of the old port area into an international passenger port. Therefore, the enterprise recommends that relevant agencies consider, support and agree to research, implement and submit the project investment proposal," Saigon Port proposed.Regularly welcomes international tourist ships
According to Saigon Port, in recent times, Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi Port has regularly welcomed large international tourist ships such as the Seabourn Encore, 210m long, 28m wide, with 960 - 1,070 passengers. The Azamara Onward is 181m long, with 400 crew members and more than 600 passengers. The Silversea Cruises is 186m long with 290 crew members, 300 passengers... In addition, domestic passenger ships and restaurant ships serving sightseeing on the Saigon River operate at night, creating a vibrant atmosphere for this area. Responding to tourism promotion activities, Ho Chi Minh City has also organized a series of tourism events to attract international visitors to Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi Port such as the river festival attracting thousands of participants. According to the forecast of sea passenger planning to Ho Chi Minh City seaports in the period of 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, about 101,500 passengers will enter the port in the Saigon River area. Of which, there are 81,200 international passengers and 20,300 domestic passengers. In addition to the plan to exploit the wharf to serve international sea and river passengers, the Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi international passenger port project also aims to receive other domestic passengers using the domestic passenger transport route to serve riverside tourism in the inner city area and high-speed boat routes connecting Vung Tau, Con Dao... On August 12, the Office of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee announced the conclusion of the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai on the agreement to study the planning of the location of Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi port in District 4 as an international passenger port. At the same time, the Department of Planning and Architecture of Ho Chi Minh City was assigned to study and update the content of the project to adjust the general planning of Ho Chi Minh City for submission for appraisal and approval according to regulations.
