Indian textiles target $100 billion exports by 2030

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed optimism that India will achieve its target of $100 billion worth of textile exports by 2030.

At the Bharat Tex 2025 event - India's largest textile fair, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India is currently the sixth largest textile exporter in the world , with current export turnover reaching 35 billion USD. The country's future goal is to triple that figure and reach an export turnover of 100 billion USD by 2030.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted the government ’s support through initiatives like the Cotton Mission that have contributed to the growth of the domestic textile industry. He was optimistic that with the enthusiasm and efforts from all stakeholders, the target could be achieved sooner than expected.

The Indian Prime Minister said that over the past decade, foreign direct investment (FDI) in India's textile industry has doubled, reflecting the country's consistent policy and relentless efforts.

Mr. Modi also lauded the flourishing Bharat Tex exhibition, held in New Delhi from February 14 to 17. It is the largest event of the industry, showcasing the entire textile ecosystem. He said that the event is becoming an important platform to foster collaboration and partnership among policymakers, CEOs and leaders of the global textile industry.

Besides, the Indian government is also undertaking major initiatives like the “Cotton Productivity Mission” to improve productivity and sustainability in cotton farming, benefiting millions of farmers.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi noted that India is moving towards high-quality carbon fiber production and is also working to create skilled manpower for the textile industry. “We are focusing on technical textiles; India is making its presence felt in this sector,” he said.

The Prime Minister outlined the 5F vision for the domestic textile industry, which includes - from farm to yarn; from yarn to mill; from mill to fashion product; from fashion product to exports. He said the vision is creating new opportunities for farmers, weavers, designers and traders, contributing to the sustainable development of the Indian economy.
