At Hanoi National University of Education, this year, the history major continues to have the highest benchmark score when it "reached" a new milestone of 28.45, surpassing 27.83 of the literature major.

Similarly, at Hanoi Pedagogical University 2, in 2023 this major continues to be the "hottest" in the school with 28.58 points, while literature major has 27.47 points.

In 2023, the benchmark for history pedagogy is exceptionally high in most teacher training schools.

The historical SP benchmark in 2021 and 2022 was only ranked 4th at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education after literature, English and math, but this year it jumped to 2nd place with a score of 26.85.

The situation is similar with Pedagogical Universities (Hue University, Da Nang University, Thai Nguyen University), University of Education , Quy Nhon University...

Explaining why the history major has become "hot" in recent years when the benchmark scores have increased, Master Le Phan Quoc, Deputy Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, said: "From an elective subject in the social sciences group, in August 2022, the Ministry of Education and Training adjusted history to become a compulsory subject at high school level. Earlier this year, the Ministry of Education and Training also announced a draft plan to organize the high school graduation exam in 2025, stipulating that there will be 4 compulsory subjects, including history. This information has affected candidates and history has received more attention and interest."

According to Master Quoc, the second reason is that the quota for the history major in recent years has been very low due to the low demand for teachers of this subject in the localities. For example, in 2023, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education was only assigned 37 quotas, a decrease of 20 quotas compared to the previous year, while other majors such as history, geography, technology, and natural sciences only have quotas of about 200 each. "The quota is low, the number of candidates for admission this year has increased by 40%, so the standard score is also in the top," said Master Le Phan Quoc.

Social subjects in general and history in particular are gradually changing in teaching, learning and testing methods today.

Dr. Tran Huu Duy, Head of Training Department of Da Lat University, said: "A few years ago, the number of registered candidates was very small, this year it suddenly increased sharply, while the quota was only 20, so the competition rate was high, the benchmark score was the highest in the school. This shows a very good sign when parents and candidates are more interested in history."

From another perspective, Associate Professor Dr. Ha Minh Hong, Faculty of History, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University), commented: "The high benchmark score is not because the questions are easy, nor is it because of the high competition rate, but importantly, social subjects in general and history in particular are gradually changing the way they are taught, learned, and tested today. Students not only enjoy it more but also grasp effective learning and testing methods, so they have many scores of 9 and 10."

"This is a welcome change. If high schools comprehensively change the way they teach and learn, history and other social subjects will be even better," Associate Professor, Dr. Ha Minh Hong acknowledged.
