The forum, which took place from September 1-3, brought together more than 1,400 delegates, including seven heads of state from Asia and Africa, along with ministers, businessmen and scholars from many different countries. The Vietnamese delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Quoc Phuong.

Themed "Bandung Spirit for Africa's Agenda 2063", the forum aims to strengthen partnerships between Indonesia and African countries in key areas of energy, food security, health and minerals.

In his opening remarks, Indonesian President Joko Widodo outlined four key points in addressing the challenges facing the international community. He highlighted the centrality of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in global development, Indonesia’s contribution to the Global South, the Indonesia-Africa partnership, and the renewal of global solidarity.

In his opening speech, President Joko Widodo expressed Indonesia's commitment to strengthening cooperation and solidarity with countries in the African region. He emphasized that the Forum aims to create positive change in a challenging world, including challenges related to economic recession, unemployment and inflation. Currently, the world context of ongoing geopolitical tensions has caused many casualties, disrupted global supply chains and affected developing countries the most.

President Joko Widodo said that in reality, with only 6 years left to complete, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 have only been achieved by 17%. Therefore, a new direction and vision, a new strategy, and new tactical steps are needed to realize more equitable and inclusive development for developing countries. Mr. Joko Widodo believes that by hosting the 2nd IAF and HLF MSP, Indonesia and African countries can work together to prioritize global development in a comprehensive and sustainable manner.

During the two working days (September 2 and 3), the above forums will hold meetings and talks at all levels with topics focusing on a number of cooperation that will be prioritized, including cooperation in economic transformation, energy, mining, food security, health and sustainable development. In addition, within the framework of these forums, there will also be business networking activities, group discussions and side events, including the Indonesia-Africa Parliamentary Forum (IAPF) on September 1 and 20 parallel and side events.

Indonesian police and military have deployed 13,000 personnel to ensure security for the above series of events.
