Innovating the model of specialized high schools in the direction of both breadth and depth

TPO - Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long requested the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), Hanoi National University, and the University of Natural Sciences to research and find solutions to innovate the model of specialized high schools in a way that is both broad and deep, creating a basis and foundation for the system of specialized high schools to develop.

Sowing the first seeds for a talent training model

Today, the University of Science , Vietnam National University, Hanoi and the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences celebrate the 60th anniversary of the tradition of the General Specialized Block and the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Luong, Chairman of the Science and Training Council of the Natural Science High School, shared that 60 years ago, in September 1965, the first special Math class was established with 38 students at the Thai Nguyen Evacuation Area of ​​the University. Since then, through many stages of development, the school has always received the least investment and has not had any special priority policies for training the best students in the country.

Professor Nguyen Vu Luong said that the State has given the school a rich house with 4 pillars of success that every educational institution always dreams of. It is a school that needs many good teachers such as Professor Le Van Thiem, Professor Hoang Tuy, Associate Professor, Doctor of People's Teacher Phan Duc Chinh; Teacher Nguyen Xuan Khang; Professor, Doctor of Science Nguyen Duy Tien...

Students have good ability when in the past 60 years they have won 249 medals out of 770 medals of the country in international competitions, accounting for 32% of the countries. Of which, there are 79 gold medals out of 198 gold medals of the country, accounting for 40%.

6/10 Vietnamese students participating in the International Math Olympiad got the perfect score of 42/42. 6/9 Vietnamese students won 2 consecutive Gold Medals in the International Math Olympiad. Ngo Quy Dang, a former student of the Natural Science Specialized School, is the only 10th grader to win a Gold Medal in the International Math Olympiad.

Vo Hoang Hai, a former student of the school, is also the only 10th grader in Vietnam to win a Gold Medal at the International Physics Olympiad, and is one of 6 Vietnamese students to win 2 consecutive Gold Medals at the International Physics Olympiad; Both Vietnamese students who won 2 consecutive Gold Medals at the International Informatics Olympiad are students majoring in Natural Sciences.

Many generations of students of the General Science High School have created the tradition of the school. Professor Ngo Bao Chau, Fields Medal 2010 is the first Vietnamese mathematician to win this noble award. Professor Dam Thanh Son, Dirac Prize 2018 of the International Center for Theoretical Physics ICTP.

Speaking at the ceremony, Director of Hanoi National University Hoang Minh Son affirmed that from the first specialized class model established during the arduous war period, the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences has become the cradle of discovering, nurturing and training thousands of talented students, contributing many outstanding talents to the country and making Vietnamese intelligence famous in the international arena.

Mr. Son emphasized that, in the context of educational innovation and new requirements in the digital age, the School needs to continue to affirm its pioneering role in innovation, promote the application of technology and artificial intelligence in teaching and learning, innovate educational methods, build a spearhead training model associated with scientific research, consider foreign languages ​​as the key to integration and develop a team of high-quality teachers.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long hoped that the school would pay more attention to some contents such as strongly innovating the educational model in a broad and deep direction; flexibly integrating parallel activities to educate the tradition of patriotism, pride, history and culture of the nation; having high responsibility to the community, being ready to contribute, innovate, dare to think and dare to do in the face of new challenges.

The Deputy Prime Minister also requested the Ministry of Education and Training, Hanoi National University, and the University of Natural Sciences to research and find solutions to innovate the model of specialized high schools in a way that is both broad and deep, creating a basis and foundation for the system of specialized high schools to develop.

Research and develop a project to discover, train and nurture young Vietnamese talents. Prioritize investment in resources and adequate funding to upgrade facilities, learning equipment, laboratories, and functional room systems for the Natural Science Specialized High School to be worthy of the number 1 high school in the country. Have mechanisms and policies to recognize and honor teachers and students who have achieved outstanding results.

At the ceremony, representing the Party and State leaders, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long awarded the Second Class Labor Medal to the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences; the First Class Labor Medal to the Department of Physics and the Third Class Labor Medal to the Department of Mathematics.
