Hanoi team won the 2023 HBC basketball tournament

In the final match of the men's event of the 2023 Hanoi Basketball Championship, the Hanoi team defeated Ba Dinh Basketball Club with a score of 61-52 to win the championship. They received a prize of nearly 100 million VND from the tournament organizers.

Meanwhile, in the women's event, the W-Cdunk team won 60-50 against the W-Dwarf women's basketball club to win the championship and receive a prize worth 30 million VND.

The best male athlete of the tournament went to Nguyen Huy Hoang of the Hanoi team, while Bui Thu Hang of the W-Cdunk team won the best female athlete award.

The 2023 Hanoi Basketball Championship is jointly organized by New Sports Joint Stock Company and Vietnam Cable Television (VTVcab), under the supervision of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports .

The tournament brings together 15 teams, including 10 men's teams and 5 women's teams. In the men's category, the 10 teams are divided into two groups A and B and compete in a round-robin format in each group. The top 4 teams in each group will advance to the final round.

In the women's category, 5 teams will compete in a round robin to determine points and rank, then the 4 teams ranked from 1 to 4 will meet in two semi-finals. In case there are two teams with the same number of points, the direct confrontation will be applied to rank.

This year's tournament marked a narrowing of the common ground of teams and players. Surprises occurred such as the amateur club Hidden Dragons, the professional team with rich experience in the Air Defense - Air Force in the quarterfinals, or the professional club Thang Long Warriors, the VBA champion, was eliminated in the first time participating in HBC by amateur club 3F Galaxy.

Of the four teams that made it to the quarterfinals, three are amateur clubs. This shows the potential and a new direction for basketball development in Vietnam.

Many records were also broken. First was the scoring record for both men and women, set by Nguyen Khanh Linh – (W-Dwarf) with 38 points. A few days later, Nguyen Anh Kiet (Hidden Dragons) broke the record with 42 points.
