Dong Thap: VNA joins hands to help poor children in border areas go to school

On September 20, the VNA's Resident Office in Ho Chi Minh City and the VNA's Resident Office in Dong Thap province coordinated with the People's Committee of Thuong Phuoc commune (Dong Thap province) to organize the charity program "Helping children go to school", targeting poor and studious students in border areas.

This meaningful activity was held to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution, National Day September 2 and the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA). The program awarded 80 scholarships (each worth 1 million VND) and 20 bicycles to students in difficult circumstances; at the same time, presented the Thuong Phuoc Commune Education Promotion Fund with more than 1,600 notebooks, 50 school bags and 60 sets of pens and school supplies.

In addition, Thuong Thoi Tien Kindergarten was awarded a bookshelf and a model under the “Green Library” project for 4 classrooms; Thuong Phuoc Commune Health Station also received 80 portions of medicine and functional foods to serve community health care. The total cost of the program is more than 200 million VND, contributed by VNA from benefactors in Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Thap.

Receiving the sponsorship from the program, Ms. Tong Tuyet Thu, Principal of Thuong Thoi Tien Kindergarten, emotionally shared: “The Green Library project is an extremely meaningful gift, helping preschool children have more conditions to access basic knowledge, contributing to improving the quality of education at the school. With the bookshelves and vivid visual models given, children will have the opportunity to explore the world around them in a more natural and interesting way. This is not only a material gift but also a great source of spiritual encouragement for the collective of teachers and students, encouraging teachers and students to work together to build an increasingly friendly and effective learning environment.”

Not only stopping at material support, the program also focuses on equipping students with life skills. At the training session, secondary school students were instructed on how to use social networks effectively, identify forms of fraud and fake information on cyberspace and how to prevent it. This is a practical activity in the context of strong development of information technology, helping students proactively protect themselves from potential risks.

Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Head of VNA's Resident Office in Ho Chi Minh City, said: "This is one of VNA's activities to support and share with students in difficult circumstances in remote, isolated and border areas. The gifts, although not large, are meaningful and contribute to giving the children more motivation to go to school."

The joy from the program was clearly shown on the students' faces. Tran Quoc Dat, an 8th grade student at Thuong Phuoc Tien Secondary School, emotionally said: "This gift is a great encouragement, helping me have more confidence to overcome difficulties and study better. I would like to thank the organizers for taking care of me and my friends so that we can have better conditions when going to school."

Mr. Huynh Thanh Phu, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thuong Phuoc Commune, affirmed that with the support of philanthropists and the bridging role of VNA, the program has demonstrated the sense of responsibility and community solidarity in caring for the younger generation. "Helping children go to school" is a humane activity, helping students in border areas have more favorable learning conditions and more confidence on their way to class.

According to Mr. Thanh Phu, the gifts given not only provide practical support for the poor but studious students of the commune but also have great spiritual value. The activities in the program have motivated the children to confidently go to school, nurturing their dreams and aspirations for a bright future. This is also a source of encouragement for families, teachers and society to join hands to care for the local education cause.

The program "Helping children go to school" in 2025 organized by VNA has the support of many units and enterprises such as Vietsovpetro Joint Venture, SAIGONBANK, SCG Group, MAVIN Group, FPT Retail Company, Thien Long Company... contributing to spreading humanistic values, supporting students in border areas on their learning journey.
