Green tourism - seen from Cat Tien National Park

1. Because I love nature, I often find opportunities to go to the forest, to trees and natural green areas. From here, I have been able to set foot on many new lands, to discover the beautiful wonders of nature, including Cat Tien National Park.

Natural forests in Cat Tien National Park

Mr. Pham Xuan Thinh - Director of Cat Tien National Park introduced to us, the current area of the National Park is over 71,187 hectares, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment . The characteristic of Cat Tien National Park is tropical humid lowland forest with diverse and rich flora and fauna. In particular, Cat Tien Nature Museum located right in the administrative and service area of Cat Tien National Park will be an ideal destination for tourists. This place preserves, displays and introduces the biodiversity values of Cat Tien National Park. Moreover, this place is one of the highlights of the famous eco-tourism destination in Vietnam. Tourism activities have been deployed since 1995 and is known as the only place in Vietnam that organizes nocturnal wildlife viewing activities. With biodiversity resources, this is a valuable treasure to exploit tourist routes based on beautiful landscapes and giant trees that cannot be seen in daily life.

Cat Tien is known for its richness and biodiversity with 1,729 animal species. In particular, Cat Tien is the only place where there is still a freshwater crocodile population with about 300 individuals living in Bau Sau and is the place recorded to have the largest gaur population in Vietnam (about 120 individuals). Cat Tien is also known as the habitat of an elephant population with 16-18 individuals. Regarding vegetation, the main forest types and vegetation include evergreen broadleaf forests; semi-deciduous evergreen forests and mixed forests of wood, bamboo, etc. According to a representative of Cat Tien National Park, at the peak on weekends, this destination welcomes about 500 visitors/day and on holidays, over 1,000 visitors/day.

The reason for the increase in the number of visitors to the National Park is that the unit has been focusing on communication activities, promoting images of the beauty of the natural resources of the National Park to domestic and foreign tourists through mass media such as websites, fanpages, facebook, youtube, newspapers, television. On the other hand, coordinating with influential individuals in the public, creating a very positive communication effect on tourists...

2. Currently, Cat Tien National Park is maintaining, caring for and training 100% of rescued wild animals; receiving all endangered native animals. At the same time, the unit has surveyed and successfully released about 80% of newly received animals, taking care of 5 hectares of yellow camellia and thousands of seedlings at the nursery.

"Green" tourism in Cat Tien National Park

Notably, in recent years, thanks to the attention of the Party, the State and localities, policies to support economic development in remote areas and ethnic minority areas have been implemented more strongly. The material and spiritual life of people in the forest fringe areas has gradually improved. Thereby contributing to reducing pressure on forest encroachment, protecting the natural environment and attracting more and more domestic and foreign tourists to Cat Tien National Park.

More excitedly, recently at the International Ecotourism Awards 2025 (AEN – IEA 2025), organized by the Asian Ecotourism Network in India, Cat Tien National Park was honored with 4 international awards for ecotourism. Including the categories of biodiversity conservation, ecotourism promotion; destination management and community awards.

For me, although I have only been to Cat Tien National Park once, it has left a deep impression. I can never forget the “green lung” of the Southeast region, contributing to preserving forests and precious values of natural ecosystems, preserving biodiversity for future generations…

In Lam Dong, where I live, there are also many ideal forest tourism spots such as Ong Mountain Nature Reserve and Ta Kou Nature Reserve. The province is orienting to develop diverse types and products of tourism, expanding the area based on the resource advantages of each locality. On the basis of promoting the potential of agriculture, rural areas and landscape values, the tourism industry in general, especially green tourism of Lam Dong, promises to increasingly flourish and attract a large number of tourists from near and far.
