At the seminar “Sustainable development of the electricity sector, issues raised” organized by the Government Electronic Information Portal on September 10, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) Nguyen Xuan Nam said that recently, public opinion has reflected on the sudden increase in electricity bills. Immediately after that, EVN directed power companies to review all customers related to this issue.
Through review, the output in August 2025 was different from previous years because the first days of August this year were unusually hot, causing the system's output to increase to a record, reaching 1.084 billion kWh, the highest peak ever.
Also according to statistics, there are currently about 3.2 million/31.8 million households (accounting for more than 10%) with electricity output increasing by more than 30% compared to July.
EVN has assigned its subsidiaries to install an app for customers to monitor output fluctuations, and has a hotline to respond promptly. The review process has not discovered any errors as reported.
Besides, there is some fake information, incorrect information or information aimed at attracting views to sell online; there is even information of unknown origin, difficult to verify.
“EVN is still reviewing. If there is any feedback, the group will respond immediately. We are implementing electronic meters, so there will be no interference to distort consumption indexes. Electricity measurements are all done remotely, then transmitted online, there is no need to go to the mechanical meter to measure indexes like before,” said Mr. Nam.
Proposing a solution for electricity bills, National Assembly delegate Phan Duc Hieu - Member of the National Assembly's Economic and Budget Committee, said that providing information to customers is the most important. For families whose electricity consumption increases dramatically in 1-2 days, EVN can send a warning immediately, without waiting until the end of the month.
You can even go directly to support and find out the cause, avoiding the situation of only giving a large bill at the end of the month, making people upset.
