
According to the Organizing Committee, in the process of implementing Resolution No. 37-NQ/TW and the policy of streamlining the apparatus, localities have merged press agencies into one focal point. This change poses new requirements for press agency leaders in renewing management thinking and operating modern newsrooms, especially in the context of digital transformation and artificial intelligence strongly impacting press activities.
Speaking at the seminar, Ms. Dang Thi Phuong Thao, Deputy Director of the Press Department (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) informed that by 2025, Vietnam will have about 99 newspapers, 33 radio and television stations, and 579 magazines. The press workforce will be about 41,000 people. Implementing the Central Government's policy, the whole country has reduced 38 newspapers, 96 magazines, and 33 radio and television stations, with about 18,000 employees affected.

By 2025, Vietnam will have about 79.8 million internet users, accounting for 78.8% of the population; internet access speed is increasing rapidly, especially 5G network. Readers are shifting strongly to mobile devices, using social networks to read news (accounting for more than 65% of users; currently only about 22% of readers access websites to read news). Advertising market share is also concentrated on social networking platforms...
"In such a context, press agencies need to quickly organize a modern newsroom in a multi-platform context to suit the new situation with 3 main issues: Content - Technology - Human resources," Ms. Dang Thi Phuong Thao emphasized.

From the perspective of local management agencies, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hoi, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, said that in reality, there is a trend for localities from the commune level, city branches... to establish effective grassroots information systems. Press agencies can also take advantage of this information channel to coordinate news reporting, increase readership, and increase influence with the grassroots.
From the press agency side, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Ho Chi Minh City Youth Newspaper Le Xuan Trung said that the Newspaper has determined that in the next 5 years, it will promote content production according to readers' needs, through clubs and groups of close readers, personalizing readers' needs associated with thoroughly digitized editorial activities, with maximum advantage of social networking platforms and information distribution channels on the internet.

According to Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Dong Nai Newspaper and Radio - Television Hoang Thi Bich Phu, after merging the press agencies of Dong Nai and Binh Phuoc provinces from July 1, the press agency of Dong Nai province has just had a print newspaper, an electronic newspaper, radio and television channels and Party and government information portals. This is a new model and the agency has united and unified to complete its political tasks.
Talking about "Restructuring the press system - Inevitable trend and effective management problem", Editor-in-Chief of Ho Chi Minh City Women's Newspaper Ly Viet Trung said: "The newspaper is implementing an editorial model that operates like a startup, promoting creativity, innovation, differentiation, streamlining, accepting challenges and risks to move forward".

In the discussion session with the topic "Content organization model - from production to distribution in digital newsrooms", Associate Professor, Dr. Dinh Thi Thuy Hang, Senior Advisor, Former Director of the Center for Journalism Training, Head of the Faculty of Marketing and Communication (School of Business Administration - Hanoi National University)..., said that since the early 2000s, many leaders of Vietnamese press agencies have visited and learned about the "Converged Newsroom" model in Sweden.
"Sweden merged its press and radio agencies more than 20 years ago. Most recently, some Chinese press agencies, typically the South China Morning Post (SCMP), have converted from print to digital content (especially video news), connecting global readers through social media platforms and have been very successful, affirming their global brand. This is a good model for the Vietnamese press to refer to," Associate Professor Dr. Dinh Thi Thuy Hang emphasized.

Speaking at the end of the discussion, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Nguyen Duc Loi emphasized: “Along with opportunities, the press is facing many difficulties and challenges. Maintaining principles and goals; ensuring accurate and timely information; and at the same time organizing and operating the newsroom effectively - all are increasingly strict requirements. But we all believe that press agencies will find the strength to break through and open up greater successes.”
