To meet the launch schedule of iPhone 16 next month, Foxconn has recruited 50,000 more workers in Zhengzhou in the past two weeks.
Foxconn is adding a large number of shift workers with higher wages at its major iPhone factory in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan province, ahead of the launch of the 16 generation - Apple's iconic smartphone model - next September.

Foxconn has raised hourly wages for workers since August, to 26 yuan ($3.63) from 25 yuan in July, along with a 7,500 yuan bonus for experienced workers returning to the factory, Chinese media reported.
Foxconn is one of Apple’s largest electronics assembly partners in the world . In addition to its largest iPhone assembly center in Zhengzhou, the company has factories in Shenzhen, Chengdu, and Yantai. The flagship factory is known for hiring heavily ahead of major product launches, creating a high turnover rate for its workforce of more than 1 million employees.
During peak production season, the average monthly salary of a worker can range from 5,000 yuan to 7,000 yuan including overtime. During the off-season, the average salary can drop to 3,000 yuan to 5,000 yuan due to the lack of overtime.
The iPhone 16 generation is receiving much anticipation as Apple brings a series of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) features to boost sales. The Cupertino, California-based company aims to ship at least 90 million devices in the second half of this year, up 10% from the iPhone 15 generation.
In China, Apple faces more competition from domestic phone makers like Huawei, Xiaomi and Oppo. According to data from IDC, Apple dropped out of the top five smartphone brands in the mainland in the second quarter, with shipments down 3.1% year-on-year, despite offering discounts.
