Nearly 20 provinces and cities finalize the third entrance exam subject for grade 10 in the 2025-2026 school year

(Dan Tri) - Except for Vinh Phuc , all provinces and cities choose English or a foreign language as the third entrance exam subject for public high schools in the 2025-2026 school year.

On January 20, the Department of Education and Training (DET) of Cao Bang announced the exam subjects for the 10th grade high school entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year.

Accordingly, students taking the exam at high schools and ethnic boarding schools in this province will take three subjects: math, literature, and English.

Students taking the exam at Cao Bang Specialized High School will take an additional specialized subject.

Previously, on January 16, the Department of Education and Training of Lang Son province also issued a notice on 3 subjects in the 10th grade entrance exam including math, literature, and English. For candidates taking the exam for Chu Van An High School for the Gifted, in addition to the general subjects, students will take an additional exam in a specialized subject according to their registered wishes.

On the same day, Bac Kan announced that the third subject for 10th grade entrance exam in the province is English.

Thus, all three northern mountainous provinces have the same third subject option for the public high school entrance exam.

The Central and Southern provinces also have similar options.

Thua Thien - Hue announced that the third subject for 10th grade public high schools in the 2025-2026 school year is a foreign language. Candidates can choose one of three foreign languages: English, French or Japanese.

Nghe An has officially "finalized" English as the third subject in this year's 10th grade entrance exam. Accordingly, all three subjects of math, literature, and English have a structure and format of exam questions that combine essay and multiple choice.

Dong Nai Department of Education and Training also chose English as the third subject in the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year.

Accordingly, the English test time is 60 minutes. Math and Literature test time is 120 minutes.

English was also chosen by Binh Duong province as the third exam subject.

According to the plan, the 10th grade entrance exam in this province will be held on May 28-29. The entrance exam for Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted will be held on May 30-31.

Binh Duong also stipulates that private schools do not organize entrance exams like public schools, but only organize admission after the results of the exam organized by the Department are available. The province's quota for public grade 10 is 12,946 students.

Lam Dong also selected 3 subjects: math, literature, and English for the 10th grade exam. Of which, math is 90 minutes, English is 60 minutes, and literature is 120 minutes.

Up to now, 19 provinces have announced or planned a third subject. Except for Vinh Phuc, all provinces have chosen foreign languages or English.
