The world raw material market just experienced a day of low liquidity as the US celebrated Labor Day.

At the end of the first trading session of the week, the metal market was quite quiet with thin liquidity. For precious metals, as of 1:30 this morning (September 3), the price of silver decreased by 0.87% to 28.8 USD/ounce, the price of platinum also lost 0.23% to 930.1 USD/ounce.

The precious metals group fluctuated quite a bit due to the uncertainty about the US Federal Reserve's (FED) interest rate outlook. Data released over the weekend showed that the US inflation rate is slowing down, as shown by the US personal consumption expenditure (PCE) price index and core PCE remaining unchanged from the previous month, reaching 2.5% and 2.6% respectively in July. This could cause the FED to cut only 25 basis points at the September meeting, instead of the 50 basis points that investors currently expect.

Therefore, the market will continue to wait for the US non-farm payroll report to be released on Friday (September 6) for clearer clues about the FED's interest rate cut scenario.
