Speaking at a press conference during the FIATA World Congress 2025, Mr. Dao Trong Khoa, Chairman of the Vietnam Logistics Business Association (VLA), said that Vietnam is a dynamic, deeply integrated economy with impressive import-export growth rates, with total trade turnover expected to exceed 800 billion USD in 2025.

Vietnam’s logistics industry currently accounts for a market size of about 70–80 billion USD, with the potential to become a new logistics hub of the ASEAN region. In particular, the Vietnamese Government has issued many strategic resolutions to develop green logistics, modern infrastructure and international integration. This is the foundation for us to promote cooperation, technology transfer and innovation together.

Specifically, the National Strategy on Green Growth for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, and the National Action Plan on Green Growth, in which logistics is identified as one of 18 priority areas for implementation. This is the pillar to realize the commitment to net zero emissions by 2050, while enhancing the competitiveness of the economy .

However, Mr. Khoa is also concerned that Vietnam's logistics costs account for 16-18% of GDP, higher than the global average of 10-12%, while logistics also accounts for 8-10% of CO₂ emissions. This poses an urgent need to both reduce costs and "green" operations, thereby creating a sustainable competitive advantage.

Talking about FIATA World Congress 2025, Mr. Dao Trong Khoa said that the event is not only an annual congress but also a pivotal event where the global logistics community together shapes a new development model - greener, more digital and more sustainable.

According to the assessment, the world is entering a period of historical transformation, where global trade and supply chains are opening up unprecedented opportunities and facing unprecedented challenges. From geopolitical tensions, supply chain disruptions to climate change and pressure for sustainable development, the logistics industry – known as the “lifeblood of global trade” – is facing an urgent need for comprehensive innovation.

In that context, green transformation is not only a trend, but has become a survival roadmap, a "passport" for businesses to affirm their position, survive and develop in the integration era.

Sharing about the pressures being placed on the logistics industry, Mr. Turgut Erkeskin, President of the International Federation of Freight Forwarders and Transport Associations (FIATA), said, “Green and adaptive logistics” is an extremely urgent and timely issue.

Accordingly, the global logistics industry is witnessing profound changes in: trade shifts, geopolitical fluctuations, the rise of e-commerce, the technology boom, and pressure on sustainability. Logistics businesses are at the heart of these changes, ensuring that goods move reliably, efficiently, and responsibly towards people and the planet, even as protectionism increases.

“Green logistics has been at the heart of environmental responsibility, regulatory requirements and competitive advantage for businesses. Pressure to reduce emissions and build sustainable networks is coming from many sides, from major export markets, from consumers, to global climate commitments. FIATA World Congress 2025 will be a place where the international business community will come together to share solutions and establish strategies for the logistics industry to adapt quickly to the times,” affirmed the FIATA President.
