Pig price in Central Highlands
The Central region recorded Gia Lai increasing by 1,000 VND, reaching 59,000 VND/kg, bringing the average price of the whole region to 58,100 VND/kg.
Southern pig price
The Southern region continues to follow an upward trend. Can Tho, An Giang and Vinh Long all reached 60,000 VND/kg, while Tay Ninh and Dong Thap remained at a high level of 61,000 VND/kg.
Price developments show that, despite the pressure caused by the epidemic, the demand for slaughter and reduced supply have kept the price of live pigs at a positive level.
According to VOV, a report from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Cao Bang province said that localities that suffered heavy losses due to African swine fever include Trung Khanh, Nam Tuan, Doai Duong, Truong Ha, Doc Lap, Be Van Dan, Quang Trung, Dam Thuy, Quang Han, Bach Dang, Vinh Quy... Some places have a rate of infected pigs and have to destroy nearly 90% of the total herd.
As of September 3, the epidemic had spread to all 56 communes and wards of Cao Bang, causing more than 137,000 pigs to be destroyed, accounting for more than 34% of the total herd. Many localities have set up 24/7 checkpoints to prevent illegal trading and transportation of pigs and pork products.
Although drastic measures have been taken to treat and disinfect the pigs, the large number of dead pigs still creates a burden for culling and a risk of environmental pollution. Communes have been instructed to proactively purchase chemicals to enhance disinfection.
Worryingly, despite strict instructions from the government, some people are still taking advantage of the situation to collect and transport sick pigs in and out of epidemic areas. In August, authorities discovered and seized 9 illegal shipments, including 2 shipments with 21 pigs testing positive for African swine fever virus.
Mr. Nong Minh Huan, Deputy Head of the Market Management Department of Cao Bang province, said that recently, African swine fever has been breaking out in the area, which is also the work content that the unit has focused on directing to closely inspect and monitor the illegal buying, selling, and transportation of pigs and pork products in the area and has handled a number of cases.
According to Mr. Huan, after monitoring the situation, the Cao Bang Provincial Market Management Department assigned professional teams to coordinate in handling 4 cases of illegal pig transportation, took samples for testing, discovered 1 positive sample and imposed administrative fines, and destroyed the violating pigs according to regulations.
Since the beginning of August, Cao Bang has distributed more than 62,000 doses of vaccine, inoculating nearly 59,000 pigs, but more than 2,700 pigs have died or had reactions after vaccination, forcing specialized agencies to continue monitoring the effectiveness of epidemic prevention.
Faced with the complicated epidemic situation, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Cao Bang province requested local authorities to strengthen epidemic surveillance, step up disinfection of livestock areas, and advise people not to restock while the epidemic is not under control.
The People's Committees of communes and wards are assigned the task of reviewing and counting pig herds, especially breeding sows and piglets of vaccination age, to have a plan for additional vaccination and evaluate the effectiveness of vaccines for piglets.
