Gia Lai recorded more than 4,000 cases of dengue fever, 2 deaths

On October 23, information from the Gia Lai Provincial Center for Disease Control said that the province had just recorded one more death due to dengue fever, the second death due to dengue fever since the beginning of the year.

The two deaths were identified as Ms. LVN (born in 2001, Tu Luong village, Tan An commune, Dak Po district, Gia Lai) and Ms. QTP (born in 1980, residing in Hoa Binh village, Bau Can commune, Chu Prong district).

Previously, on October 5, Ms. N. developed the disease with a diagnosis of Dengue fever and was treated at home. After 5 days of treatment, the patient did not improve, was very tired, had poor appetite, and had epigastric pain. On October 10, Ms. N. was hospitalized at An Khe Town Medical Center. Through examination, the patient vomited a lot, had pain in the right hypochondrium, was very tired, had poor appetite, and had an enlarged liver 3cm below the ribcage. Diagnosis: Dengue shock on October 5.

Gia Lai recorded more than 4,000 cases of dengue fever, 2 cases died.

After that, Ms. N. was transferred to Binh Dinh Provincial General Hospital. Here, Ms. N. continued to receive treatment but her condition did not improve with the diagnosis: Shock/severe Dengue fever on day 6, not responding to fluid replacement and vasopressors/sepsis/multiple organ failure.

Despite being actively treated by doctors, Ms. N.'s condition did not improve and she died on October 12. The Binh Dinh Provincial Center for Disease Control took samples for testing using MAC-ELISA technique, with positive results.

According to the forecast of the Gia Lai Provincial Center for Disease Control, the dengue fever epidemic situation is expected to continue to develop complicatedly from now until the end of 2023. Therefore, there needs to be drastic and timely intervention from local authorities at all levels, the health sector, departments, branches and organizations in the locality to deploy activities to prevent dengue fever from breaking out and spreading.
