Gia Minh and Chuc An lead on the opening day of the National Golf Championship

In challenging coastal golf course conditions with strong winds and harsh sunlight, athlete Do Duong Gia Minh finished first round under par.

In the Men's group, the race for the top position was dramatic as the leading position was constantly changing. Starting from hole 1 in the afternoon round, Do Duong Gia Minh, despite having 2 double bogeys in the first 9 holes, still scored 7 birdies to rise to the top of the table with 71 strokes (-1).

Following closely behind was Yang Jung Soo, who previously held the No. 1 spot. With four birdies and an impressive eagle at hole 5, the golfer finished the round at Even Par, temporarily ranked T2.

Tied for third place are Nguyen Duc Son, Nguyen Van Quang and Dao Van Hoan with (+2). With high expectations and an impressive start, Nguyen Duc Son continuously took the lead with 4 birdies, until hole 15 when it took 6 strokes to get the ball into the hole, causing Duc Son to drop to a tie for third place with 75 strokes.

In the Women's group, two young faces representing the National team, Le Chuc An and Than Bao Nghi, shared the top spot with a score of (+2). Although the current Champion Le Chuc An did not have the best result today when he finished the round with (+2), with this score, the athlete born in 2008 still temporarily leads the table.

In particular, Than Bao Nghi had a breakthrough performance today. After a not-so-favorable start with 4 bogeys in the first 9 holes, the 17-year-old female athlete made a strong breakthrough in the second round with 3 birdies, putting herself in the race for the title.

Right after that - 3rd place is Nguyen Thao My (+3), with 4 birdies but unfortunately also had 5 bogeys and 1 double bogey. In 4th place is Doan Xuan Khue Minh (+4), who left her mark with 1 eagle and 3 birdies, but also had many unfortunate bogeys and double bogeys.

Today's competition day was also marked by a "rain of eagles" when there were 5 eagle points scored, coming from Truong Chi Quan, Yang Jung Soo, Nguyen Dang Minh (all scored at hole 5) and Nguyen Huu Quyet (scored at hole 11).

Tomorrow (August 20), the athletes will enter round 2 with more pressure when the tournament applies the cut. In the Men's group, the 50 golfers with the best results and ties will advance, while in the Women's group, only the top 12 athletes with the same score will be selected.

The 2025 Gia Lai National Golf Championship brings together 125 top golfers from across the country, including 106 men and 19 women, including many professional golfers and outstanding young talents. The tournament brings together four champions from previous seasons: Nguyen Nhat Long, Nguyen Duc Son, Le Chuc An and Doan Xuan Khue Minh. The tournament is also considered an important test to select the remaining slots for the national team before the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand.

This year's tournament has a total prize value of up to 1.2 billion VND, of which the men's division is 1 billion VND, the women's division is 200 million VND. The men's champion will receive 180 million VND, the women's champion 60 million VND, along with gold, silver and bronze medals awarded by the Department of Physical Education and Sports .
