Gold price today August 22: Anchored at record peak, forecast to reach 140 million VND?

On the morning of August 22, gold bars at Saigon Jewelry Company - SJC increased by 600,000 VND per tael, bringing the buying price to 124.4 million VND, selling price to 125.4 million VND. Particularly, the 4-number 9 gold ring was increased by 200,000 VND by SJC Company, bringing the buying price to 117.5 million VND, selling price to 120 million VND. Phu Nhuan Jewelry Company (PNJ) increased the buying price by 300,000 VND to 117.3 million VND, selling price to 120.3 million VND; Doji Group also increased by 200,000 VND, bringing the buying price to 117.3 million VND, selling price to 120.5 million VND... The difference in buying and selling prices of gold bars continued to remain at 1 million VND per tael while gold rings were from 3 - 3.2 million VND.

The world gold price fell slightly to 3,336 USD/ounce, 5 USD lower than yesterday. The precious metal fell due to the USD's rebound. The market traded cautiously before the important speech of the US Federal Reserve (Fed) Chairman Jerome Powell at the Jackson Hole conference. Disagreements revolved around the timing of the Fed's interest rate cut, so the speech will show the Fed Chairman's views, from which investors can look for signals on the direction of US monetary policy. The Fed's benchmark interest rate has been maintained in the range of 4.25% - 4.5% since December. Any change in the Fed's decision will affect the financial market in general and the gold price in particular.

Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs maintains its forecast that gold prices will reach $4,000/ounce by mid-2026, citing strong demand for gold from central banks, capital flows into ETFs supported by the Fed's easing policy, and a 30% probability of the US economy falling into recession within the next 12 months. If world gold reaches this increase, the equivalent conversion will reach nearly VND130 million per tael. If the difference between Vietnam and the world is added, the domestic gold price could exceed VND140 million/tael./.
