Missing the autumn moon...

Not as brilliant as the full moon of January with its magical golden light that inspires countless poets with its endless source of poetry, the autumn moon on the full moon night of August of the lunar calendar has its own magical attraction.

Not as brilliant as the full moon of the first lunar month with its magical golden light that inspires countless poets with its endless source of poetry, the autumn moon on the full moon night of the eighth lunar month has its own magical attraction. In the chilly weather of the changing seasons, cool breezes gently blow through the rows of coconut trees swaying in the yard. The wind carries the moon high, spreading a brilliant golden light mixed with a gentle green, evoking a feeling of both reality and unreality, half far and half near, no less magical than the autumn moon.

The shimmering autumn night with the full moon marks many childhood memories. Bright moonlit nights were often awaited and eagerly awaited by rural children like us. Back then, there was no electricity in the countryside. Under the bright moonlit night, children from all over the neighborhood gathered to play, sing loudly, and when they were tired, they went home.

Still unable to sleep early, my sisters and I often asked our grandfather to tell us stories of the past, fairy tales... Under the autumn moonlight, each gentle breeze gently caressed the cool air, the scent of laurel wafted from the porch with its small, pretty white flowers, as if eager with us children, listening enthusiastically to his slow, warm voice.

But strangely, in my childish mind at that time, I thought he was in some kind of fairy world ... He was sipping tea, waving a bamboo fan, his silver beard fluttering under the silvery moonlight. I closed my eyes and pretended to fall asleep, secretly enjoying the magical feeling of the peaceful autumn moonlit night like a dream that seemed like it could never return.

The autumn moon is always charming and inviting, but perhaps the full moon night of August is the most awaited by children because they can play lantern parade games and eagerly wait for the time to break the festival and eat sweet soup, sticky rice, and cakes. The mid-autumn lanterns are mainly homemade from beer and soft drink cans. Those who are skillful can make their own shapes of stars, carp, lotus flowers, and butterflies with pretty fringes. Late at night, the wind blows coolly, and the moon rises higher and brighter...

The pure, magical beauty of the autumn moon still evokes a bit of distant memories, a vague feeling. The stars twinkle high above. The banana bushes and coconut leaves rustle in the wind, somewhere the lonely cry of a flock of nocturnal birds suddenly echoes across the night sky. Under the thatched roof of the countryside, the children quickly fall into a deep sleep after moments of carefree play. The moon tilts by the window, gently peeking through the window, a slight breeze seems to caress and soothe the magical dreams of childhood.

Time flies so fast, and the children have grown up. The twists and turns of life await, and the struggle for survival gradually fades the autumn moonlight of childhood nights. The simple, handmade star-shaped and carp-shaped lanterns of the past have been replaced by modern, sophisticated, and pretty battery-powered lanterns of all colors.

The Mid-Autumn Festival has come again, the countryside is different now, conveniences have come to every corner. Children today are fascinated by many attractive games on smartphones, where are the fairy-tale Buddhas, Fairies, and Hanging Ladies? However, the autumn moon is still there, forever radiating its silent, loving gaze!./.
