The folk song: "No matter where you go/Remember the Ancestor's Death Anniversary on the 10th of March" has been deeply imprinted in the minds of every Vietnamese person for generations.
The worship of Hung Kings of our nation has gone beyond national boundaries to become a common cultural heritage of all mankind. This is the first heritage of Vietnam to be honored in the form of belief.
According to legend, Hung Vuong was the son of father Lac Long Quan (of the Dragon race) and mother Au Co (of the Fairy race). He had the merit of building the Van Lang state; as well as teaching plowing and rice planting, giving spiritual energy to the land, houses, crops, and livestock to grow and flourish, and for bountiful harvests.
To express gratitude to their ancestors, for thousands of years, Vietnamese people have celebrated the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day on the 10th day of the third lunar month every year at the Hung Temple Historical Site in Phu Tho Province and at thousands of other temples across Vietnam. The Hung Kings' Commemoration Day has become a cultural beauty in the Vietnamese consciousness.
Up to now, the Hung King worship has become a cultural and religious symbol, connecting the past with the present, creating a tradition of solidarity, love, mutual support, and nurturing affection for family, village and nation.
