In early September 2025, at Mo Na Duong Kindergarten (Na Duong commune), a child had a mild fever. Immediately after that, the child was taken to the school's medical room for examination. The school's medical staff carefully recorded the child's health status in the health record book, contacted the parents and instructed them to take the child to the nearest medical station. Ms. Nguyen Minh Ngoc, the school's principal, informed: Young children have weak resistance and are susceptible to infectious diseases, especially during the changing seasons. To ensure the health of children when they go to school, we arrange for medical staff on duty and maintain enough necessary medicine and first aid equipment. Every year, the school coordinates with the commune health station to equip and supplement medicine, essential medical supplies and train teachers in first aid skills. At the same time, we focus on training children in the habit of maintaining personal hygiene and classroom environment to prevent epidemics.
At Chi Lang Primary School, Luong Van Tri Ward - where there are nearly 1,500 boarding students, food hygiene and safety is emphasized. Ms. Hoang Thuy Thu, Vice Principal shared: Every day, we check food sources, supervise processing, and store samples according to regulations. Teachers also regularly promote students to wash their hands with soap, eat cooked food, drink boiled water, and maintain personal hygiene. In addition, medical staff are always on duty; essential medicines and medical supplies are always fully prepared to ensure students' health care.
The province currently has 648 schools with 648 school health workers, in charge of primary health care for over 210,000 students. Ms. Phan My Hanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, said: The Department regularly coordinates closely with the Department of Health and the Provincial Social Insurance to fully implement the contents of the school health program. Schools all develop school health plans, organize health check-ups for students at the beginning of the year, monitor with health books, focus on the safety of boarding meals and disease prevention.
To improve the quality of school health care, schools have arranged separate health rooms, ensuring space, adequate equipment, first aid tools, essential medicines, ensuring primary health care for students. Schools organize communication activities to educate students about personal hygiene, environmental hygiene, prevention of some epidemics, school diseases, accidents and injuries, and food hygiene and safety. Educational institutions have organized periodic health check-ups, promptly detecting many problems such as: oral health, nutrition, school eyes... As a result, in the 2024-2025 school year, 100% of primary school students received initial health check-ups, thereby detecting and promptly handling more than 94,000 health risk cases such as: oral diseases (more than 70,000 cases), eye diseases (nearly 9,800 cases) or malnutrition, overweight (more than 12,800 cases)... From there, schools have coordinated with medical facilities and families to have appropriate treatment directions.
Mr. Nong Trong Hieu, parent of a 7A student at Tan Tri Secondary School, said: At the beginning of last school year, my child was found to have tooth decay during a routine check-up at school. The school notified us, and our family took us for timely treatment. We, the parents, feel more secure when our child's health is monitored regularly.
Promoting the achieved results, in the new school year 2025 - 2026, the provincial education and health sector continues to implement many solutions to improve the quality of health care in schools such as: strengthening professional training for health workers, investing in facilities, promoting propaganda on personal hygiene, food safety, disease prevention, injury accidents... With the joint efforts of functional sectors and the attention and coordination of families, we believe that school health care will become more and more effective, contributing to building a safe and friendly educational environment, creating conditions for students to develop comprehensively.
