Rechargeable fan "fever"

To cope with the hot weather when the power outages are prolonged, many people in the capital have chosen cooling devices that can store electricity such as rechargeable air conditioners, rechargeable fans... Due to the increased demand, rechargeable fans are becoming scarce.

Rechargeable fans are being sought after by many people to cope with rotating power outages.

Electrical stores in Hanoi are selling many different models of rechargeable fans, with prices ranging from 1 million to nearly 2 million VND/unit, high-end ones can cost up to 3 million VND/unit. Popular rechargeable fan brands are Kangaroo, Sunhouse, Panasonic, Honjianda, etc.

At electronics supermarkets and shopping malls, customers are flocking to buy rechargeable fans, and many places are out of stock. At Nguyen Kim electronics store at BigC Thang Long (Cau Giay District, Hanoi), an employee said the store sells rechargeable fans priced from 990,000 to 1,700,000 VND each but is out of stock. “Last night, 10 people asked for rechargeable fans. As soon as the goods arrived, they were sold out. Warehouses in Hanoi are also out of stock and we don’t know when they will be available again,” said the employee.

Some electronics stores only have 1-2 rechargeable fans left.

Similarly, at the Dien May Xanh and Media Mart supermarket chains in Hanoi, rechargeable fans are also out of stock, customers have to wait 5-7 days to get them.

Many owners of household electrical appliances stores have the same opinion that rechargeable fans are attracting customers’ attention. Since the second half of May, when there was information warning of a potential power shortage in the North, the number of customers asking to buy this product has skyrocketed.

“In the past few weeks, when power outages were common, the demand for rechargeable fans increased dramatically, and we couldn’t import them fast enough, so they sold out. Sales increased 7-10 times compared to this time last year. Many individual customers from Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Hai Duong … ordered online because they were sold out everywhere,” said the owner of an electrical appliance store on Tran Quoc Vuong Street (Cau Giay District, Hanoi).

Ms. Tran Ha Phuong (residing in Nhan Chinh Ward, Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi) said: "At the stores near my house, the price of rechargeable fans increases every day. Yesterday, the price was 800,000 VND, now it has increased to 1 million VND," Ms. Phuong shared.

On social networking sites, rechargeable fans are also out of stock, if you want to buy one you have to order in advance.

"Price storm" online market

According to records, in Hanoi, electronics supermarkets and electronics stores no longer have products to sell, so many people have to look for rechargeable fans on e-commerce platforms and social media groups.

“Supermarkets and electronics stores are all out of stock, and we don’t know when they will be available. On social media, everyone says they’re back in stock, but every time we ask, they’re all gone, and they’re out of stock as soon as they post. If you want to buy something, you have to order a week in advance. Even if there are still some left, the prices are sky-high,” one resident lamented.

Ms. Nguyen Thanh Huong (Duy Tan Street, Cau Giay District, Hanoi) consulted with friends and decided to buy a fan model that can be used continuously for 5-7 hours. Ms. Huong said that the two electronics stores near her house only had a few models with high prices and short usage time, so she went to e-commerce platforms and social networking sites.

“Buying rechargeable fans on e-commerce platforms and Facebook feels like getting lost in a maze with all kinds of models and prices. Although they are all rechargeable fans from the same brand, the price difference can be from a few tens to a few hundred thousand dong. When asked about the price difference, the answer is that it is because of increased demand that the products are out of stock and cannot be bought quickly,” said Ms. Huong.

At electronics and refrigeration stores, there are still stores that hang signs "have rechargeable fans" but when customers ask, there are only a few small fans left, and the usage time does not meet customer needs.

Having just bought a fan with a battery for 750,000 VND a week ago on social media, Ms. Phuong Thao (living in Thanh Oai District, Hanoi) was upset when the fan broke.

“I saw information posted on the group that suited my family’s needs, but after a short time of use, I found the ads were fake, the fan had poor capacity and broke down quickly. From now on, I will never buy electronic devices online again,” said Ms. Thao.
