Hanoi: Heavy rain causes 65 flooding spots

(Chinhphu.vn) - Due to the influence of storm No. 10, from the morning of September 30 until now, Hanoi has had heavy to very heavy rain (over 500mm in some places), with 65 flooded areas; flooding is forecast to continue this afternoon and evening if heavy rain continues.

According to information from Hanoi Drainage Company Limited, due to the influence of storm No. 10, there will be scattered rain in the city from 7:00 a.m. until now and concentrated rain with high intensity from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Specifically, the amount of rainfall measured up to 2:30 p.m. in some areas increased dramatically such as: O Cho Dua Ward was 503.9mm, Hai Ba Trung Ward was 391.7mm, Vinh Thanh Commune was 448.9mm... Some areas had rainfall over 200mm such as: Ba Dinh Ward was 235.3mm, Van Mieu Ward was 249.8mm, Tay Mo Ward was 300.9mm, Hoai Duc Commune was 306.5mm, Long Bien Ward was 290mm,...

According to the forecast of the Northern Hydrometeorological Station, this afternoon and evening, in Hanoi city, there will continue to be moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, so flooding is forecast to occur on a large scale.

Pumping stations Yen So, Cau Buu, Dong Bong 1, 2, Co Nhue, Da Sy... have been operating at 100% capacity to quickly lower the water level in the system.

According to the assessment of Hanoi Drainage Company, the drainage system of Hanoi City currently only ensures drainage for rains with a density of 310 mm/48 hours, but from 7:00 to 14:30 on September 30, the area with the highest rainfall was over 366 mm and higher in some places.
