After more than 3 years of implementing the Plan to improve productivity and quality of livestock breeds (beef cattle, dairy cows) and aquaculture in Hanoi in the period of 2021 - 2025, the livestock and aquaculture sectors of Hanoi have achieved many important results.
In the field of beef and dairy cattle breeding, the proportion of crossbred cows with good size, productivity and quality has increased, increasing production value. Specifically, dairy cows are concentrated in key communes in Ba Vi, Quoc Oai, Gia Lam districts... with an average milk yield of 5,000 kg/cow/305-day cycle. For breeding cows, the artificial insemination rate on breeding cows is currently 80%, the proportion of Zebu cows in the city is over 92%; over 10,000 F1 Wagyu cows have been born.
In the field of aquaculture, with an aquaculture area of 24,700 hectares, Hanoi has developed concentrated aquaculture areas in the direction of applying high technology and intensive farming to increase productivity, quality and food hygiene and safety. Total aquatic product output in 2024 is estimated at 132,344 tons, an increase of 3.7% over the same period in 2023 and an increase of 13.6% over 2020.
The city has also formed 141 large-scale concentrated aquaculture areas in the districts of Ung Hoa, My Duc, Ba Vi, Phu Xuyen, Chuong My, Thuong Tin, Thanh Oai, Thanh Tri, Soc Son... with 20 facilities for artificial production of aquatic breeds , with a seed output of 1,460 million fish of all kinds, basically meeting the needs of the city's farmers and exporting to some neighboring provinces .
Notably, in the city, a clear chain of product consumption links has been formed such as: IDP milk chain, Vinh Nga milk chain; Dong Thanh Company's beef chain; Thang Loi Trade Development Company Limited's beef chain; and Dai Ang High-Tech Aquatic Products Cooperative's commercial seafood chain.
Along with focusing on supporting production development, the Hanoi Agricultural Development Center also focuses on technical training for livestock breeders and aquaculture farmers. Accordingly, the center has organized 15 training courses for 750 beef and dairy cattle farming households on herd management, care techniques, nutrition and prevention of common diseases in dairy and beef cattle herds; knowledge on crossbreeding, selection of breeds and issues related to production organization, product consumption, and environmental treatment in beef and dairy cattle farming.
Along with that, the center organized 15 training courses for 750 representatives of organizations and individuals in concentrated aquaculture areas; organized 2 advanced training courses on veterinary skills on cattle for 60 technical staff who are veterinary staff in key beef and dairy cattle farming communes; 1 advanced training course for 30 artificial insemination staff for beef and dairy cattle; organized 2 intensive training courses for 60 technical staff in the aquaculture sector at the facility. In addition, the center also organized delegations to visit, study and exchange experiences on livestock farming and aquaculture in Hoa Binh and Son La provinces.
Notably, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development's Advisory Center and the city successfully organized the Hanoi Beef Cattle Breeding Knowledge Contest and Beautiful Cattle Individuals. Through the contest, high-quality beef cattle breeds, as well as key beef cattle breeding communes in the city, were introduced to farmers nationwide, thereby indirectly promoting the formation of chains, developing brands and increasing livestock farming efficiency in the city.
Evaluating the implementation results, Director of the Hanoi Agricultural Development Center Hoang Thi Hoa said that not only bringing high economic efficiency, the implementation of the above plan also helps to improve the technical level of veterinary staff at the facility. At the same time, providing safe and controlled livestock and aquatic products to consumers; taking advantage of ineffective agricultural land to grow grass and using agricultural by-products to reduce environmental pollution. Along with that, creating jobs for thousands of workers in rural areas, increasing income for livestock households...
