At the Vietnam Open 2025, Hai Dang is the 7th seed. He is also the only Vietnamese tennis player still competing in the men's singles event.
Previously, in the qualifying round on September 9, Nguyen Tien Minh was defeated and did not get a ticket to the main round. Meanwhile, in the first round, Le Duc Phat was also eliminated early. Therefore, Hai Dang is the last hope of the host country.
On the afternoon of September 10, he played against Wang Yu-Kai. These two players are both left-handed and possess technical playing styles. Therefore, the match between the two was tense and exciting.
Although Hai Dang is not as tall as his opponent, he has better defense. His tenacity helps him to resolve difficult shots many times. In set 1, the Vietnamese player had the advantage and at one point created a 7-point streak. He won this set 21-16.
With the advantage of spirit, Hai Dang continued to play explosively in set 2. He quickly took the lead 11-5 and maintained the advantage. Despite some mistakes at the end of the set, the gap was still large enough for Hai Dang to continue to win 21-15, thereby earning a ticket to round 2 of the Vietnam Open 2025.
His next opponent is the winner of the match between Puritat Arreee (Thailand) and Mithun Manjunath (India). Sharing after the opening day victory, Hai Dang said: "I will try my best and hope to at least make it to the quarterfinals. The first day's victory is very important for all athletes, because it is a stepping stone for them to play well in the next matches."
In the women's singles, Tien Minh's wife, Vu Thi Trang, stopped after losing to Ashmita Chaliha (India) with a score of 15-21, 20-22.
