The first two teachers were recruited directly by Ho Chi Minh City as 'excellent'

Two candidates born in 2001 were considered for direct high school teacher positions with double the usual salary, marking the first time Ho Chi Minh City has recruited personnel from excellent students.

On January 15, Mr. Tong Phuoc Loc, Head of the Personnel Organization Department, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, said that in the recruitment of civil servants from excellent students and young scientists, the education sector received three applications, out of a total of 43 positions. The two qualified candidates are Tran Quang Anh and Luu Anh Khoa, both born in 2001.

After passing the round of reviewing academic results and interviewing professional qualifications at the end of December 2023, two candidates were recognized as successful in being recruited as high school teachers of Math and English.

"The Department will meet with a number of suitable high schools to assign work to these two candidates, ensuring an environment and conditions for them to develop their abilities," said Mr. Loc.

Candidates who are selected under this category, in addition to the salary according to the grade and level, will receive an additional allowance equal to 100% of their salary for 5 years (ie about 8.5 million VND per month, not including additional income).

During this period, Ho Chi Minh City also recruited an official for the Center for Trade and Investment Promotion, from a source of excellent students.

This is the first time Ho Chi Minh City has recruited teachers from excellent students and young scientists according to Decree 140 of 2017 of the Government. Before the Department of Education and Training, many agencies of Ho Chi Minh City recruited according to this decree, but by February 2023, according to the Department of Home Affairs, the city had not recruited anyone.

The reason is that Decree 140 sets high requirements for candidates. Candidates must have graduated with honors, be under 30 years old, have won third prize in provincial-level excellent student competitions or certificates of merit in international excellent student competitions during high school.

Ho Chi Minh City is currently the locality with the most support policies for teachers in the country. In addition to salary, teachers receive additional income according to the resolution of the City People's Council, up to 1.8 times the salary according to the rank and position. Therefore, teachers in Ho Chi Minh City can earn from 6.8 to 22 million VND per month, while the average income for teachers nationwide is 3.8 to 12.2 million VND.

This school year, the city is short of more than 8,000 teachers but has only recruited more than 3,600. The difficult positions to recruit are Music, Fine Arts, Information Technology, and Technology teachers.
