According to information from the General Department of Customs on January 9, among the industry's outstanding events in 2024, the efforts of Customs in the task of collecting the State budget and many breakthrough solutions, facilitating customs clearance and supporting trade with a record import-export turnover of over 786 billion USD have attracted public attention.
The first highlight in 2024 is that Vietnam Customs will assume the role of Chair and successfully host and organize the 33rd ASEAN Customs Directors-General Meeting.
The organization of the Conference aims to fulfill the obligations and responsibilities of the Customs agencies of member countries in the ASEAN region; enhance the position and role of Vietnam Customs and is consistent with the general policy of the Party and State on enhancing Vietnam's multilateral foreign relations.
As the host country and Chairman of the Conference, Vietnam Customs has actively contributed to providing orientations for discussion and building a new phase of customs development strategy. This includes the goal of customs modernization, research and application of new technologies, strengthening connectivity and information sharing to serve regional and global customs control. Vietnam Customs has also proactively volunteered to take on the role of coordinating country in the 2nd Joint Customs Control Campaign (JCC), one of the highlights of outstanding initiatives in ASEAN Customs control cooperation.
According to the General Department of Customs, the world and Vietnam economic situation in 2024 is still assessed to be challenging because the internal difficulties of the economy are forecast to continue. However, the total state budget revenue from import-export activities reached 427,989 billion VND, reaching 114.13% of the estimate compared to the estimate assigned by the National Assembly of 375,000 billion VND, an increase of 16.1% over the same period in 2023.
The third notable event is that the General Department of Customs implemented many solutions to facilitate and support trade, with import-export turnover reaching a record of over 786 billion USD.
“One of the bright spots of the Customs sector in 2024 is the export and import turnover of goods, maintaining a high growth rate, contributing to promoting the recovery of the domestic economy, meeting the needs of many export markets, with the total value of Vietnam's export and import of goods reaching 786.29 billion USD, up 15.4% over the same period last year. The trade balance has a surplus of 24.77 billion USD. This is the highest export and import turnover ever,” said a representative of the General Department of Customs.
In 2024, Customs has synchronously implemented many solutions to ensure State management of customs for import and export activities and facilitate trade such as: Reducing customs clearance time, simplifying administrative procedures, focusing on implementing synchronous solutions from institutions to modernization reforms and specific solutions in organizing the implementation of business processes, removing difficulties and obstacles for businesses.
A representative of the General Department of Customs said: The Customs sector's drug prevention and control work has achieved impressive results, seizing nearly 2.3 tons of various types of drugs and 355 subjects.
As the standing agency of the Ministry of Finance 's Steering Committee 389, the General Department of Customs has done a good job of advising the Ministry of Finance in coordinating with ministries, branches, and functional agencies, organizing forces to detect and arrest many cases of customs law violations, many major drug cases, especially cases following international criminal networks, contributing to ensuring social security and safety.
Event 5 is the outstanding role of Vietnam Customs in coordinating and implementing the Mekong Dragon VI campaign against illegal trafficking of drugs, wild animals and plants and event 6: The mark of "10 years of developing Customs - Business partnership".
In the context of many difficulties in the country and the world today, the development of Customs - Business partnership continues to receive attention and focus from the Customs sector with new orientations and solutions that are increasingly more substantial and in-depth.
In particular, strengthening Customs - Business cooperation, creating favorable conditions for businesses and relevant parties to participate in perfecting legal policies, improving the management and law enforcement capacity of each party, contributing to promptly resolving difficulties and problems, supporting and creating favorable conditions for the business community.
