At the ceremony, Director of the Customs Department Nguyen Van Tho reviewed important milestones, affirming the position and importance of the industry in the cause of building and protecting the country. "80 years of construction and growth is a journey full of hardships and challenges, marking the persistent contributions of generations of civil servants, public employees and workers of the Customs industry", Director Nguyen Van Tho emphasized.
Also at the ceremony, Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang affirmed: after 80 years of development and growth, Vietnam Customs has always maintained its core role in carrying out the mission of "guarding the door" of the national economy, both facilitating trade and ensuring economic security and national sovereignty. The Minister also acknowledged that customs is one of the pioneers of the financial sector in digital transformation. From the initial manual model, the sector has successfully implemented electronic customs, connecting the National Single Window, ASEAN Single Window and is gradually moving towards digital customs and smart customs.

With its predecessor being the Customs and Indirect Tax Department established under Decree No. 27/SL dated September 10, 1945 of Minister of the Interior Vo Nguyen Giap, Vietnam Customs has constantly innovated and pioneered in modernizing management. The industry has applied electronic customs, connected the national single window, ASEAN single window, and gradually transformed to the digital customs model, smart customs. More than 99% of customs procedures are now processed online, online public services at the full level reach more than 62%, contributing to promoting trade and attracting investment. In 2024, Vietnam's import-export turnover will reach more than 786 billion USD, making Vietnam one of the top 20 largest trading economies in the world.
At the same time, Vietnam Customs has effectively promoted its role in collecting state budget revenue from import-export activities. The sector has also strengthened the fight against smuggling, trade fraud, drug crimes, and illegal cross-border transportation of goods, contributing to maintaining economic stability and national security. The Customs force has also proactively expanded international cooperation, participating in many important agreements and projects, thereby enhancing Vietnam's position in the international arena.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang requested the customs sector to continue to accelerate the completion of customs laws, effectively implement the smart customs model, improve the quality of staff, proactively integrate and affirm the position of Vietnam Customs in the international arena. Minister Nguyen Van Thang also, on behalf of the President, awarded the First Class Order of Military Exploit to the Customs Department for its outstanding achievements in the fight against smuggling and illegal transportation of goods and drugs across the border.
Entering the "Era of Rising" of the nation, Vietnam Customs identified the "four pillars" of the Politburo's resolutions on science and technology development, promoting the private economy, perfecting the law and promoting international integration as the "compass" to successfully implement the Customs Development Strategy to 2030.
Director Nguyen Van Tho said that the industry will focus on perfecting the synchronous legal system, promoting administrative procedure reform, taking businesses and people as the center of service. At the same time, the industry is determined to build a digital Customs, smart Customs, strongly applying artificial intelligence, big data, and digital infrastructure to all management and control activities.
