On the morning of December 7, in Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang Province, the People's Committee of An Thoi Ward organized a launching ceremony for the pilot implementation of waste classification at source and responded to "Phu Quoc Environment Day". The activity had the participation of hundreds of officers and soldiers from agencies and units under the Naval Region 5 Command.
At the launching ceremony, officers and soldiers of the Naval Region 5 Command, together with union members, youth, union officials, organizations, businesses, armed forces, students and local people, cleaned up the environment, cleared bushes, trimmed trees that obscured visibility, cleaned roads, and removed advertisements, classified ads and leaflets that violated regulations and spoiled the urban beauty.
The forces also coordinated to organize propaganda and mobilize people to properly classify waste at home and at work, not to discharge wastewater and waste in violation of regulations, and to limit the use of plastic bags and disposable plastic products to protect the environment and public health.
Previously, in June 2019, Phu Quoc launched, choosing the first Saturday of each month to implement "Phu Quoc Environment Day" with the motto "Each organization and individual takes an action for the environment of Phu Quoc pearl island to be greener, cleaner, more beautiful, safe and friendly.
The activity received active participation from agencies, departments, unions, armed forces and people in the city.
After 4 years of implementation, this model has been spreading widely in the community, receiving the response and active participation of agencies, departments, unions, armed forces and people in the city.
According to the 4-year summary report (2019-2023), "Phu Quoc Environment Day" has organized 52 meetings with about 67,750 participants, collecting about 816 tons of garbage. Specifically: in 2019, there were 7 meetings with 27,650 participants, collecting 243 tons of garbage; in 2020, there were 13 meetings with 18,500 participants, collecting 244 tons of garbage; in 2021, there were 13 meetings with 8,900 participants, collecting 113 tons of garbage; in 2022, there were 13 meetings with 7,900 participants, collecting 150 tons of garbage; in the first 6 months of 2023, there were 6 meetings with 4,800 participants, collecting 66 tons of garbage.
2024 is the 5th year Phu Quoc has implemented "Phu Quoc Environment Day", with the desire to raise community awareness about hygiene and environmental protection, so that the Pearl Island always wears a green, clean and beautiful coat, thereby creating a good impression in the hearts of domestic and foreign tourists .
