The Tran Temple Seal Opening Ceremony is an ancient custom at the Tran Dynasty's Tien Mieu (former Thien Truong Palace) with the meaning of praying for national peace, people's safety, and world peace .
The opening ceremony of the Tran Temple seal is the procession of Ngoc Lo palanquin, carrying the incense stick of King Tran Nhan Tong from Pho Minh Pagoda (Thap Pagoda) to pay respect to the ancestors of the Tran Dynasty and witness the ancestor worship rituals at Thien Truong Temple.
Leading the way are the five-colored flags, ceremonial banners, and musical instruments, followed by the messenger's palanquin, and finally the Buddhists chanting sutras behind.
The Ngoc Lo palanquin procession includes the elderly and people of Tuc Mac village (Loc Vuong ward, Nam Dinh city).
The delegation offered flowers and gifts.
According to tradition, before carrying the Ngoc Lo palanquin, the head of the Tran family goes to the Upper Hall of Thap Pagoda - where the throne and the tablet of King Tran Nhan Tong are placed - to perform a ceremony to ask for the incense bowl to be brought to the Ngoc Lo palanquin.
When the procession from Thap Pagoda returned to Thien Truong Temple yard, the celebrant took 5 incense sticks from the incense bowl on Ngoc Lo palanquin and placed them in the incense bowl at the altar of King Tran Nhan Tong, then performed the sacrificial rituals and kept the palanquin at the temple. On the afternoon of January 16, the palanquin was brought back to Thap Pagoda.
