In order to prepare students mentally before entering grade 1, from August 4 to August 29, primary schools, inter-primary and secondary schools in the province simultaneously implemented a week of familiarization with teaching and learning Vietnamese for ethnic minority children before entering the 2025-2026 school year according to the direction of the Department of Education and Training in Document No. 126/GDĐT-GDPT, dated July 23, 2025.

Help children master Vietnamese

The Vietnamese language introduction week for ethnic minority students is a very important stage. This is the time to help them get used to the new learning environment and be exposed to Vietnamese in a natural and effective way. The purpose is to help students get used to the new learning environment, stabilize their psychology and form basic learning habits and routines.

The content of organizing these educational activities focuses on enhancing Vietnamese language skills so that students can effectively participate in the 2018 General Education Program, contributing to narrowing the language gap and improving the quality of teaching, especially Vietnamese in the first year of primary school. At the same time, helping teachers to quickly detect students' difficulties and limitations in order to have appropriate support measures.

According to teacher Chu Van Vu, Principal of Sung Tra Primary Boarding School, Sung Mang Commune, the biggest difficulty in teaching ethnic minority children is that they do not speak Vietnamese clearly (especially those studying at school locations). At home, they mostly only communicate in their mother tongue. Therefore, teachers must use both Vietnamese and ethnic minority languages ​​so that children can understand the lesson content. Therefore, implementing a familiarization week for teaching and learning Vietnamese is very necessary and important to help students reduce confusion before entering grade 1.

The teaching content is flexibly built according to 3 main activities: Warm-up - connection, Explore - practice, Apply - experience. Diverse methods, including learning words, sentences, storytelling, role-playing, playing learning games, dancing, singing, reading poetry, coloring and real-life communication to create a positive, close and friendly learning environment. Thereby, ethnic minority children improve their ability to use Vietnamese, become confident in communication, form basic learning habits, and be ready to integrate into the 2018 general education program when entering grade 1.

In addition to the goal of improving Vietnamese language proficiency, the program also focuses on early detection of students' difficulties and limitations in order to provide timely support during the learning process. The school closely coordinates with families and social organizations such as the Youth Union, the Association for Promotion of Education, etc. in mobilizing and maintaining student numbers and creating conditions to support effective learning.

Teacher Pham Thanh Tri, Principal of Yen Nguyen Primary School, emphasized: Organizing a week to familiarize and teach Vietnamese to ethnic minority children not only helps them stabilize their psychology and form learning habits, but also contributes to the goal of developing education in ethnic and mountainous areas, creating a solid foundation for the country's comprehensive educational innovation.

During the familiarization week, students will be introduced to images and objects familiar to their local life. This helps them feel closer and less confused. In addition, they can participate in activities such as: playing folk games, singing simple songs in Vietnamese... This activity not only helps them relax but also learn vocabulary and sentence structure naturally.

Contribute to improving the quality of education

Through initial records, in the first week of school, schools have consulted with the Party Committee, the government and coordinated with local organizations, villages, hamlets and parents in mobilizing children to go to class, supporting transportation, preparing accommodation conditions for boarding students during the study period. Carefully prepare facilities, assign managers and teachers to welcome students and parents to get acquainted with the new learning environment; high attendance rate, children are excited to go to class and bold, confident when communicating in Vietnamese.

In addition, teachers prepare good teaching plans, have many initiatives to create trust for students and parents such as: Sending open letters; creating background models for children to record beautiful images; preparing learning materials, videos , real objects to illustrate the lesson; enthusiastically guiding students to hold a pen and write the first strokes. Many schools also organize familiarization activities for the whole grade, go to each class to encourage students and support parents to clean up, creating a green, clean, and beautiful landscape environment. Parents feel more secure when seeing their children get acquainted in a friendly and safe educational environment.

Mr. Vu Van Dung, Head of the General Education Department, Department of Education and Training, assessed: This is an important activity to prepare conditions for children to enter grade 1 in the 2025-2026 school year. For ethnic minority children, this activity will contribute to consolidating and developing the Vietnamese language in communication and learning in Vietnamese; helping students not to be pressured when entering a new learning environment, while reducing the rate of weak students and dropouts in the first years of primary school.

The Vietnamese language introduction week before entering grade 1 is not only a technical solution, but also demonstrates the close attention of the education sector of Tuyen Quang province in improving the quality of education in ethnic minority areas, ensuring fairness in access to education.
