Long Kieng Bridge, Vam Sat 2 Bridge and the parallel road of Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway will be completed and open to traffic on the occasion of National Day, September 2, helping to increase connectivity and reduce traffic congestion.

The project to build a new Long Kieng bridge was approved in 2001 to replace the old steel Long Kieng bridge. However, due to funding constraints and difficulties in site clearance and compensation, the project was not implemented.

In 2017, the project was approved and adjusted with a length of 318m and a width of 15m, built with the city budget at a value of 589 billion VND.

After an incident caused a span on the navigation deck of the old Long Kieng Bridge to collapse, in 2018, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport rushed to start construction of the new Long Kieng Bridge. The project was expected to be completed in November 2019, but at the end of 2019, it had to be temporarily suspended after completing 7 bridge piers due to lack of land. After nearly three years of stagnation, in September 2022, Nha Be District completed compensation and handed over the entire land to the investor to restart the project.

Long Kieng Bridge is expected to officially open to traffic on September 2. Once completed, the new Long Kieng Bridge will help improve traffic conditions, connecting Nha Be District with District 7, District 1 center and neighboring areas.

Vam Sat 2 Bridge and the two-way approach roads have a total length of nearly 1.1km, the bridge surface is 10m wide. Vam Sat 2 Bridge is located about 100m from Vam Sat 1 Bridge towards the Soai Rap River mouth. The starting point of the project is Ly Nhon Street and the end point is the intersection of Ly Nhon Street and Soai Rap dike road.

The Vam Sat 2 Bridge project started in March 2018 with a total capital of more than 342 billion VND. By August 2019, the Vam Sat 2 Bridge was completed, however, due to site clearance problems, construction was suspended for more than 2 years.

By 2022, the project will be fully handed over by Can Gio district for the investor to restart. Currently, the project has reached more than 99% of the volume, ready to open to traffic on the occasion of the upcoming September 2nd holiday.

After completion, Vam Sat 2 bridge will help reduce the load on Vam Sat 1 bridge, thereby effectively exploiting Ly Nhon road connecting traffic between An Thoi Dong commune, Ly Nhon commune with Can Gio district center and Ho Chi Minh City center.

The Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway parallel road was started in April 2017 under the BT (build-transfer) contract with a total investment of VND869 billion, expected to be completed after two years. However, due to problems with land acquisition and payment procedures under the BT contract, progress has been delayed.

The project consists of two parallel sections built on the right side of the expressway. Of which, the first section is 2.7 km long, connecting Mai Chi Tho Avenue through Do Xuan Hop Street, and the other section is more than 600 m long, connecting route D11 through Ring Road 2, Thu Duc City.

Before the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway parallel road was completed and opened to traffic, motorcyclists had to travel on the two lanes on both sides of the rather narrow highway to enter and exit residential areas in the east of the city.

The project is expected to be completed on the occasion of September 2nd holiday. When completed, the parallel road will help reduce traffic pressure on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh expressway, which is often congested.
