After just 3 matches of the 2025-2026 Premier League season, Nottingham Forest officially fired coach Nuno Espirito Santo.

According to The Sun , this shocking decision was made after the relationship between the Portuguese strategist and the club's owner, Mr. Evangelos Marinakis, completely broke down.

In a brief statement, the club said: "Nottingham Forest can confirm that, following recent events, Nuno Espirito Santo has today been relieved of his duties as head coach. The club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a highly successful era at the City Ground, in particular his role in the 2024-25 season, which will be remembered forever in the club's history."

The main reason for the dismissal is said to be due to irreconcilable conflicts with owner Marinakis. Mr. Nuno himself publicly admitted last month that his relationship with the owner had changed and was no longer good.

"Our relationship has changed. It's not close anymore... That's not good. Everyone at the club should be united, but that's not the reality," he said at a press conference.

The rift is believed to have been linked to the appointment of former Arsenal technical director Edu as the club's global football director in the summer. A 3-0 home defeat to West Ham just before the international break appears to have been the final straw.

It is worth noting that the decision to sack him came just a few months after Mr. Nuno signed a new 3-year contract in June 2025. Last season, he had an extremely successful season when he led Forest to a 7th place finish, qualifying for the European Cup for the first time since 1996.

Nottingham Forest's board are currently looking for a replacement. Potential candidates mentioned include manager Brendan Rodgers, along with Ange Postecoglou and Jose Mourinho.
