Liverpool's winning streak under manager Arne Slot officially ended after the defeat to Crystal Palace. This defeat exposed many problems in Liverpool's defense, especially in set-piece situations.
Speaking after the match, coach Slot expressed dissatisfaction with the way his players defended after conceding the second goal in the 90+7 minute. He shared: “We can only blame ourselves for defending like that. A player rushed forward because he wanted to counterattack, but time was almost up, he just needed to focus on defending. His overly offensive mindset led to the decisive goal."
Although not naming names, British media said Slot's statement was aimed at Jeremie Frimpong - the right-back who made a positional error, forgetting Eddie Nketiah in the goal.
Slot also pointed out Liverpool's new weakness: "Last season we hardly conceded from set pieces. But against Newcastle we conceded two goals, and today we conceded two more. This is something that must be improved immediately if we want to compete for the title."
Liverpool will face a challenging week after this defeat. They will face Galatasaray in the second round of League Phase, Champions League on October 1, before traveling to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea three days later in the Premier League.
