On April 2, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that it is expected that the American International School (Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City) will welcome students back on Thursday, April 4.

Specifically, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu said that after a meeting between the school, parents and authorities a few days ago, about 85% of parents with children studying at the school agreed to contribute an additional amount of money to maintain the school's operations until the end of the year (June 2024).

By the afternoon of April 2, 542 parents had deposited VND21.7 billion into a joint account (managed by representatives of the HCMC Department of Education and Training, parents, and the American International School). This amount will be used to pay teachers' salaries from January to March.
The salary payment will be made on the afternoon of April 2nd, and on April 3rd some financial issues will be resolved so that students can return to school on April 4th.

According to the head of the education sector of Ho Chi Minh City, the immediate priority of the city, parents and schools is to bring students back to school soon.
According to the proposal of the American International School, parents will contribute an additional amount so that the school can maintain teaching and learning until June 2024.

Accordingly, preschool students are 9.5 million VND/month; primary school students are 14.5 million VND; students in grades 6-78 are 20.5 million VND and students in grades 9-12 are 25.5 million VND per month.
About 1,000/1,300 parents have agreed to the above proposed contribution. The total amount of 125 billion VND is expected to be spent by the school for teaching and learning purposes, under close supervision from the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City as well as parent representatives.

Previously, since March 18, many teachers at the American International School have stopped teaching due to unpaid wages and insurance, making it impossible for students to attend school normally. The school currently has approximately 130 foreign teachers and approximately 130 domestic teachers and staff.
