The application of science and technology and monitoring equipment in training, testing and granting driving licenses helps the current teaching and learning of driving cars go in the right direction, helping students to be able to drive on the road immediately after receiving their license.
Increase quality, reduce negativity
Circular 04/2022 issued by the Ministry of Transport in 2022 is considered a "revolution" in driving teaching and learning when it requires that from June 15, students must complete more practical driving distances with driver and distance monitoring devices (DAT).
By January 2023, driver training will be further enhanced when centers are required to equip simulation cabins for teaching.
With basic exercises such as how to operate a vehicle, exercises such as driving test, driving on more complex terrain such as mountain roads, highways, city roads... help students get familiar with different terrain conditions, improve their vehicle control skills.
Mr. Luong Duyen Thong, Head of the Department of Transport, Vehicle and Driver Management, Vietnam Road Administration, said that promoting the application of technology in driver training management is an important solution to help improve the quality of teaching and learning, bringing this work closer to many advanced countries in the world .
Technology helps learners learn additional new training content to improve driving skills on the road as well as ensure the driving training program according to regulations. To achieve high results, learners need to fully participate in the training content according to regulations, monitor the learning content according to the contract signed with the driving training facilities to ensure their rights.
"Applying technology is not to make it difficult for students, but to tighten driver training, to create a team of drivers with enough skills to control and handle unsafe situations, contributing to ensuring traffic safety and order," said Mr. Thong.
Drive confidently on the road safely
Sharing about her recent driving lessons, Ms. Nguyen Thuy Dung (30 years old, Thanh Xuan, Hanoi) said, with the DAT device and simulation software, I was "created conditions" to hold the steering wheel more. When I got my driver's license last June, I drove with my friends on a trip without "shaking hands".
"I was lucky to practice more than 800km on all kinds of roads, so I was not surprised at all when driving. If I had learned like before and had little practice, I definitely would not have dared to hold the wheel on the road, let alone go on long trips. I think that in the future, the academy will also practice on virtual cabins, which would be great," said Ms. Dung.
Mr. Tong Van Thuan, a driving instructor at Dong Do Driving Training and Testing Center, acknowledged that the awareness and ability of learners to drive cars has been a rather painful issue in recent times, with many places "learning secretly, learning by shortcuts", not driving enough kilometers. When there is a monitoring machine, it will help learners to practice more seriously right from the beginning of holding the steering wheel. Instructors cannot "click their tongue" and be irresponsible.
"More than anyone else, driving instructors are the first people to come into contact with students in the process of forming knowledge, skills and especially driving awareness. If the teacher drives recklessly and hastily when teaching; then also drives recklessly, curses, litters on the street... then how can we expect our students to have good awareness when participating in traffic later? Therefore, teachers must first of all be exemplary in every situation, even the smallest one," Mr. Thuan shared.
Experts say that tightening the management of driving teaching and learning is necessary, minimizing superficial and formal learning and contributing to ensuring safety for the community as well as future drivers themselves.
Mr. Nguyen Van Quyen, Chairman of the Vietnam Automobile Transport Association, said that technology does not make it difficult for students but helps improve skills and reduce traffic accidents. "The use of modern equipment helps train drivers to be able to handle situations quickly, avoiding unsafe risks when participating in traffic. The quality of driver training has improved significantly. Students after being granted a license are very confident in driving," said Mr. Quyen.
Thanks to the automatic scoring device, the passing rate of the test has decreased from 80-85% (when taking the test manually) to about 65-70% depending on the center, reflecting the actual level of the students. This not only ensures the quality of the driving team but also limits negative aspects in the test. Thus, the application of technology in driver training and testing not only meets practical requirements but also aims at the long-term goal of building a safer, more transparent and modern traffic environment.
