During the phone call, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh conveyed the greetings and regards of General Secretary To Lam and other senior leaders of the Party and State to the German Chancellor; highly appreciated Germany's role and position in the European Union and in the international arena; was pleased to see that after 50 years of establishing diplomatic relations, Germany is a leading partner in trade and investment; and emphasized that Vietnam always attaches importance to consolidating and developing the strategic partnership with Germany in all fields.
The Prime Minister asked Germany to continue to coordinate effectively in implementing the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), promptly ratify the Vietnam-EU Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), create more favorable conditions for businesses of the two countries to expand investment and business cooperation; and make science, technology and innovation a new pillar in bilateral cooperation.
Prime Minister Friedrich Merz expressed his impression of Vietnam's development potential and growing position in the region and the world; highly appreciated the great results that Vietnam has achieved in recent times in all fields as well as the fact that Vietnam has issued many important resolutions to promote socio-economic development, science and technology, and innovation. Prime Minister Merz affirmed that Germany attaches importance to the Strategic Partnership with Vietnam and wishes to continue expanding cooperation with Vietnam in strategic areas such as green economy, energy transition, circular economy, supporting industry and logistics services, etc.
The two Prime Ministers agreed to further promote cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, green finance, renewable energy, digital transformation and sustainable development, supporting industries, digital economy, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, transportation, etc. At the same time, they agreed to continue close coordination within the framework of ASEAN-EU relations as well as at international and regional forums.
The latest report of the Vietnam Trade Office in Germany said that by the end of July 2025, two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Germany reached 7.76 billion USD, an increase of 15.4% compared to the first 7 months of 2024. Of which, Vietnam exported 5.5 billion USD to Germany (up 19.6%) and imported 2.26 billion USD from Germany (up 6.4%).
