The members of the delegation were all moved when witnessing the unfortunate couple's plight. Since 2022, Ms. Thien was diagnosed with rectal cancer, had to undergo 4 surgeries, many rounds of radiation therapy and chemotherapy, and her health was increasingly deteriorating. The disaster did not stop there. In early 2025, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoang - her husband, the only breadwinner in the family, was diagnosed with a malignant penile tumor, the disease was in its late stages. From hard-working latex workers, they are now exhausted of strength and money, only able to rely on each other in pain.

The house, less than 30 square meters, was built on the land of the husband’s brother, and now has no valuable assets left. The couple’s three children, the eldest just got married and is also living in difficult circumstances, the middle child has left school unfinished, and the youngest, 7 years old, often cries and calls out “Mom, Dad, don’t be in pain anymore, don’t leave me…”, which makes anyone who hears it feel heartbroken.
