Initiating Para Pickleball Club - A place to connect passion and vitality
Having suffered from polio since childhood, Huynh Cong Son was a wheelchair tennis champion for more than 10 years, then switched to Pickleball - a gentle, accessible sport . "Pickleball not only helps maintain passion but is also a form of physical therapy to help restore motor function" - Mr. Son shared.
In June 2023, with his passion and experience, Mr. Son founded the Para Pickleball Club in Ho Chi Minh City for people with disabilities, quickly attracting nearly 30 members to participate regularly every week, becoming a place to practice, exchange and develop the movement.
Not only providing a playground for people with disabilities, the Club also organizes many large-scale tournaments such as: Wheelchair Tennis and Pickleball Club Championship (2024), Tan Binh District Community Pickleball Tournament (2024) and Ho Chi Minh City Disabled Sports Championship (2025)... contributing to promoting the development of this sport in Vietnam.
Passion and endless desire
In addition to his role as founder and coach, Mr. Son also created the Saigon Para Pickleball fanpage on Facebook, connecting with international organizations such as: Wheelchair Pickleball Thailand, Clubs in the US, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong (China)... He is also a member of the executive board of the International Para Pickleball Federation, affirming Vietnam's position on the world map of sports for people with disabilities.
The special feature of Pickleball is its high level of integration, when disabled people and normal people can compete together in a match. “Pickleball has removed barriers, connecting people through passion for sports” - Mr. Son confided.
For Huynh Cong Son, Pickleball is not only a sport but also a source of energy, a bond that connects the disabled community beyond all limits.
“Every day I don’t go out to play, I feel like I miss something. Pickleball has become my blood and the motivation for me to overcome all difficulties,” Son said.
His passion and aspiration not only create championship titles, but also light up new faith and vitality for the disabled community.
