For many years, the opening ceremony of the new school year has been uniformly scheduled nationwide, taking place on the morning of September 5.
According to the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training , the opening ceremony of the new school year was organized concisely, solemnly and meaningfully, bringing teachers and students across the country a joyful mood to enter the new school year.
Schools all held welcoming ceremonies for new students (grades 1, 6 and 10), flag-raising ceremonies, singing the national anthem and listening to the president's letter to the education sector .
After the ceremony, many schools organize a variety of activities related to the school year's themes, or aimed at specific messages within the action program throughout the school year.
The 2023-2024 school year is the fourth year of implementing the 2018 general education program and the first year the new program is implemented in grades 4, 8, and 11. However, schools still have to implement both programs in parallel (while grades 5, 9, and 12 continue to study the 2006 education program).
Schools must continue to overcome difficulties, supplement conditions in terms of teachers, facilities, and teaching equipment to implement new programs more effectively and with better quality.
Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son affirmed that the 2023-2024 school year must increase dynamism and creativity in all stages of educational activities in schools. In which, the key role belongs to teachers. The efforts and overcoming difficulties of teachers are the decisive factors in moving towards the goal of fundamental and comprehensive educational innovation.
In Hanoi , more than 2.2 million preschool and primary school students will enter the new school year 2023-2024. The opening ceremony of the new school year was agreed by the Hanoi Department of Education and Training to be limited to 60 minutes. The principals' speeches were also shortened, reducing the achievement report, emphasizing the topics and messages that the school wants to send to teachers, parents and students.
Nguyen Sieu Secondary and High School (Cau Giay District, Hanoi) chose the theme "Leading Change" to remind staff, teachers, and students to change from awareness to behavior and attitude to create changes in teaching and learning methods. Phan Huy Chu High School (Hanoi) expressed its determination to "Clear goals - more motivation" by encouraging students to register their personal goals right at the opening ceremony of the new school year.
Marie Curie School (Hanoi) chose the theme: Young People with the slogan on the main backdrop of the opening ceremony stage and on the banners "Don't ask what the Fatherland has done for us/But ask what we have done for the Fatherland today".
The speech at the opening ceremony by Mr. Nguyen Xuan Khang, the principal of this school, was also very strange. There was no report on achievements, but it started with the question "Young people, where are you? What must you do?"
He mentioned the world-changing revolutions of the 18th, 19th, 20th centuries and the 4.0 industry of the 21st century and then told students, "4.0 technology creates many new opportunities and challenges that require young people to actively study and apply new technology. The new school year has just begun, the YOUNG Marie Curie already knows where they are, what they have to do and how to do it?".
Some schools, on the occasion of the opening ceremony, also emphasize new school year themes such as "gratitude", "happiness", "cooperation"... expressed through activities right after the ceremony on the opening day.
There are schools that organize for senior students (grades 5, 9, 12) to give flowers to new students (grades 1, 6, 10), honor excellent students, students with difficult circumstances who study well, or share touching stories and actions of teachers and students to spread positive energy on the opening day of the new school year.
