Hanoi: More than 99% of 200,000 voters surveyed agreed to establish Gia Lam district and its wards, Gia Lam District Party Secretary Nguyen Viet Ha said.
The information was given by Mr. Ha at the specialized meeting of the Gia Lam District People's Council to review and discuss the Project to establish Gia Lam District and wards under the district, on the afternoon of August 29.

According to Mr. Ha, after consulting voters on August 27 and approving the People's Council of the commune and town on the morning of August 29, relevant units have compiled, researched and appraised the project to submit to the district People's Council meeting.
"99.91% of the district's voters participated in giving their opinions and 99.09% of the voters agreed to establish Gia Lam district," Gia Lam Secretary said and asked the district to complete the submission to the city and report to the People's Council at the September meeting.

Presenting the project to establish a district, Vice Chairman of Gia Lam District People's Committee Truong Van Hoc said that the district has met 5/5 standards, groups of standards for establishing a district, 31/31 criteria according to the Resolution of the National Assembly Standing Committee on standards and classification of administrative units. The areas planned to establish wards also met 4/4 standards, groups of standards.
Gia Lam District was established on the basis of the original status of more than 116 km2 of natural area and a population of nearly 310,000 people. From 22 administrative units at commune and town level, the administrative boundaries of 4 units were adjusted, 12 commune and town units were merged, to establish 16 administrative units at ward level in Gia Lam District.
Gia Lam District after its establishment is expected to have 16 wards including: Trau Quy, Da Ton, Kieu Ky, Ninh Hiep, Yen Thuong, Co Bi, Dang Xa, Duong Xa, Duong Quang, Le Chi, Yen Vien, Phu Dong, Thien Duc, Phu Son, Bat Trang, Kim Duc.

Regarding administrative boundaries, the east of the district borders Thuan Thanh district ( Bac Ninh ) and Van Lam district (Hung Yen); the west borders Long Bien district, Hoang Mai district and Dong Anh district; the south borders Van Giang district (Hung Yen) and Thanh Tri district; the north borders Tu Son city and Tien Du district, Bac Ninh.
100% of the Gia Lam District People's Council delegates present voted in favor of the policy of establishing the district and wards of Gia Lam district according to the proposal of the District People's Committee.
Hanoi currently has 12 districts (Ba Dinh, Dong Da, Cau Giay, Tay Ho, Bac Tu Liem, Nam Tu Liem, Thanh Xuan, Hai Ba Trung, Hoan Kiem, Hoang Mai, Ha Dong, Long Bien), 17 rural districts (Dong Anh, Gia Lam, Ba Vi, Me Linh, Quoc Oai, Thanh Oai, Chuong My, My Duc, Soc Son, Thanh Tri, Phu Xuyen, Dan Phuong, Hoai Duc, Phuc Tho, Thach That, Thuong Tin, Ung Hoa) and Son Tay town.
The city aims to have 3-5 districts upgraded to districts in the 2021-2025 period. In the immediate future, it will prioritize resources and complete criteria to upgrade Dong Anh and Gia Lam districts to districts in 2023.
On July 4, at the 12th session, the Hanoi People's Council approved the project to establish Dong Anh district and its wards. The project to establish Gia Lam district is expected to be considered and approved by the City People's Council at the September session.
According to the plan, in the fourth quarter, Hanoi will submit the project to the central government for both Dong Anh and Gia Lam districts.
