Within the framework of the event, on the morning of September 26, 3 thematic workshops took place. The first was the workshop "The value of open source AI for Vietnam". Ms. Lisa Koh, Policy Program Manager and leader of Meta's AI and innovation programs in the Asia- Pacific region, along with a team of experts, shared key research results from Meta and Linux Foundation on the economic and social value of open source AI in Vietnam. The program promoted interdisciplinary dialogue between management agencies, the private sector and institutes and schools in developing an open source AI ecosystem.
In addition, at this workshop, experts discussed issues such as: How Vietnam is leveraging the value of open source AI, what is the role of the government , what impact does it have on public sector applications, how businesses are implementing it and what challenges remain, and analyzed how open source AI can be customized for local needs.
Experts discuss at the seminar.
Dr. Vo Xuan Hoai - Deputy Director of the National Innovation Center said that AI, especially open source AI, is a central pillar for Vietnam's economic growth and global competitiveness.
Currently, Vietnam has built solid policy foundations for AI such as: National Strategy on AI to 2030, Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW and Decree No. 13/2023/ND-CP. These strategies, Resolutions and Decrees have set clear goals to turn Vietnam into an "AI nation".
According to experts, open-source AI will be the driving force for interdisciplinary dialogue, shaping a favorable environment for AI to become a growth engine and helping Vietnam become a regional innovation hub.
Next, the second workshop with the theme "GenAI and the future of learning and teaching" focused on the impact of AI on education, with speakers from British University Vietnam (BUV) and the Institute for Artificial Intelligence Research and Application (AI4LIFE).
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Phi Le, lecturer at the School of Information and Communication Technology, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said that AI cannot completely replace the tasks of teachers. However, AI will help analyze and process data, help manage schools better and detect problems that humans cannot detect.
From a research perspective, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Phi Le also expressed his views on the role of institutes in orienting and building appropriate application frameworks, avoiding abuse or over-dependence on technology.
Experts also introduced the GenAI application model in education from developed countries, especially the ability to personalize learning according to each student's ability, a direction that is considered to have a lot of potential for Vietnam.
The third topic focuses on AI application trends in the financial sector with main content revolving around AI deployment in digital banking, security issues and open source AI trends in the financial industry.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, Technology Director, Director of the Institute of Technology of MISA Joint Stock Company, open source AI is the right trend to invest in. But there are still many challenges, especially computing infrastructure. Therefore, we need to rely on open source AI for better computing; especially need to invest in data and people.
The event is also an opportunity for managers and businesses to look at challenges together, thereby demonstrating Vietnam's determination not to stay out of the technology trend.
